Getting New Stuff Before My Trip

I have a list of things I want to get before I head out on my great adventure to the Philippines. I need to get a couple things for a wedding that I am going to while I am in the Philippines. I wish it was mine but it is not. I have a couple things I need to take care of on the home front before leaving. I am happy to say I got a lot of they taking care of this week.

For the wedding, I needed to get a hole new set of dress clothes. Monday, I got a new pair of dress shoes along with I new pair of street shoes. I like both pairs of shoes and I am sure I will enjoy wearing them on my vacation. I will take my old street shoes to for when, Jo Anne, take me to see where she works. Jo Anne is having a barong tagalog made for me. A barong tagalog is an embroidered formal shirt that Filipinos wear. I got my measurements a couple weeks ago. Jo Anne ordered the barong tagalog for me on Saturday. It should be ready in a couple days. The turn around is faster and the cost is a lot less then if I got one here in the United States. They had more choices on the customer fit ones. How I only need to get a new undershirt to wear under the barong tagalog, black dress pants and some dress socks.

I ordered new bible for home and to take on my trip. I got a English Standard Version with Charcoal leather cover with a Celtic cross design on the front cover. My old bible is falling apart. I will most likely keep the old bible in the car now and use the new bible in the house and take it to church.

On the technology side of things. The postage scale that I use for my online store stopped working completely on Friday. It had been acting up all week. I ordered a new postage scale on eBay, Friday night. I won a auction and only paid $11.60. I should have it on Wednesday or Thursday. Then last night, my cell phone gave out on me again but I was planning to get a new phone next weekend anyway. I spent this afternoon getting my mom and I new phones. Mom's phone was at least five years old. I upgraded to a Motorola Droid Turbo. I like the new phone so far. I am still setting it up. I cannot find the GPS setting right now. I am sure I will figure it out here soon. It is not that important right now anyway.

I took the car in this week to have the transmission serviced since it was due for a check up. Everything checked checked out. Last week I had the back brakes done. So unless something else goes wrong with the car, it should be go to go for my mom to use it while I am away.

I have checked on eBay and read up on have my store set to vacation mode while I am gone. It seem simple enough to switch it on. My listings will still be up so people can buy my books. There will be a note telling them I will not be shipping the things they buy until I get back from my vacation.

I am glad things seems to be coming to together for my trip. I have added a countdown until my trip on the side bar of the blog so you can join Jo Anne and I in our countdown. We are excited to get to see one another again. I plan to take my laptop with me so I can do blog posts while I am there. I guess we will see how everything goes.

Taking The Kids Swimming At Fawn Lake

There the three day weekend with Memorial Day on Monday, I planned to do a lot more then is turning out to be going on. Saturday, I worked a little around the house. I still need to finish working on the back room of the garage. My friend, Keith, came and switched out the outlet for the new light and removed the old light. I can turn the light on with the switch by the door instead of having to walk to the light and pull the cord. I removed the old boards that the old owner of the house had his tool hanging. I plan to put up shelves and a freezer for storage. I still need to clean out some on the mess I have in there before a get the shelves up and buy the freeze. Maybe I will get it done tomorrow while mom is at work.

Saturday after mom got off from work, mom and I went to the annual Garden Jubilee on Main Street in Hendersonville, North Carolina. I was a little disappointed this year because I did not see any thing that caught my eye. I hoped to see something to gave me an idea for my yard. But not all was lost because I did get a good laugh reading a bumper stick on the back of a stop sign near the courthouse.

Sunday went a little more as I planned it. I took my sister and her kids and my mom out to DuPont State Forest to go swimming. The kids handled the four-tenths of a mile walk better then I thought they would. We all enjoyed the water. There was a lot of people at Fawn Lake but not as much as at Hooker and Triple falls.

My nephew, Jason, enjoying the water.

My nephew, Victor, enjoying the water. My sister behind him going to get my niece.

My niece, Julie, waiting for her mother before getting in the water.

My mom enjoying her time with the grandchildren.

The kids what want to go hiking the next time we go to DuPont State Forest. I may take them to the airstrip and the farm.

One more day to go on my three day weekend. I hope to do most of what I have planned for tomorrow. I planned on getting mom out for breakfast but my mom have her day off cancelled so out outing was pushed back until he gets off from work. We will head up to Asheville and I plan to post of our adventure tomorrow night when we get home.

Songs and Sounds on Saturday: Johnny Paycheck - Take This Job And Shove It

This week I picked a song that reminds me of when my grandma quit her job at a nursing home. I was only four or five years old and sung this song to her boss. My family and I still get a laugh from it when we talk about it. There have been times, I like to would have sung it to the different bosses over the years.

The idea for Songs and Sounds on Saturday comes from Valerie. Please visitor her blog, A Mixed Bag.

Food Journey: Italian Bread

What you will need:

  • French bread
  • Butter or Margarine
  • Italian seasoning

You can make you own French bread or buy a fresh loaf at the store. I brought a loaf from the store. Cut the loaf of bread lengthwise. Spear the butter to cover both halves of the beard.

Then sprinkle the Italian seasoning over the butter.

Place in the oven with boiler on. Remove when bread is toasted. This will only take a few minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes. Cut into pieces and enjoy.

Enjoying Nature And Having A Relaxing Weekend

My friend, Seth, and I heading out to DuPont State Forest on Saturday with Rayna my dog for a swim and a hike. Before, we heading out to DuPont State Forest, we dropped a new refrigerator off to my brother Steven and ate lunch at the new Burgerworx in town. Steven lives in a group home and the small refrigerator we got him when he first moved in there stopped working last week. Seth helped me get a new one at the store for Steven and carry it into Steven's room. the new one is a lot bigger then his old one. Steven will be able to fit more drinks and snacks in it. After leaving Steven's house, Seth and I, stopped at Burgerworx on the south-side of Hendersonville. It was my first time at a Burgerworx and I enjoyed it. You can customize your burgers. The fries taste really good even when they get cold.

After lunch, we headed on up to DuPont State Forest. We went to the Fawn Lake Access Area to go swimming and hiking a little.

The entance to the parking area.

Fawn Lake were we went swimming. Seth and I enjoyed the water. Rayna did not enjoy it so much.

After swimming for a little while we head up the trail to the old airstrip. This is one of the many blackberry bashes we saw in bloom.

I notice they fixed up the old hangar at the airstrip since I was out there last summer. It looks nice.

View from the Hangar looking down to the end of the airstrip. The spot at the end is a group of bikers. There were a lot of people out with there bikes this weekend at the forest.

This a the view from the end of the airstrip. I am glad my camera has a panoramic setting. Click on the picture to see a bigger view.

Seth was kind enough to take a picture of Rayna and me at the end of the airstrip with the view in the back. Rayna enjoyed the hike a lot better then the swim.

Looking down the airstrip from the end to the other end.

We started to head back to Fawn Lake after taking pictures at the end of the airstrip. On the the side of the airstrip there was some daisies growing.

We headed back to town and picked up my mom from work. Then I dropped Seth off at his home and headed home myself.

Mom and I ordered pizza for dinner and eat dinner on the patio. While I was eating, was watching the squirrels feeding their young in the nest in the tree in my neighbor's yard. It was a end of on a day enjoying the outdoors.

Sunday was spend resting after church. I have a long week ahead at work with overtime schedule everyday and a meeting to go to on Tuesday. Thank God, next weekend is supposed to be a three day weekend.

Food Journey: Mexican Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwiches

I got the idea for this breakfast sandwich form BinomialBaker: Cinco de Mayo Breakfast Sandwiches. I did not have time to make my own guacamole so I brought some from the store. I skipped the salsa and used a different cheese in which Jodie's recipe calls for. I added the bacon.

Things you will need:

  • 6 English Muffins
  • 6 Eggs cooked your way
  • 6 slices of Habanero and Jalapeno cheese
  • 12 slices of bacon
  • guacamole

Toast the english muffins. Melt cheese on the top slice of the english muffin. Place a tablespoon or 2 of the guacamole on the cheese. Place the egg on the bottom slice of the english muffin with the two slices of bacon on top the egg. Place the top and bottom together and enjoy.

Please take some time to check out the great recipes by Jodie at BinomialBaker.

Special Mother's Day For Mom

Mom does a lot for me. Since she lives with me she does most of the cleaning around the home and the cooking too. Of course, there is all the love she has show over the years. I wanted to make this Mother's Day this year special for mom. I think I succeeded in doing it.

When mom woke in the morning she come into the kitchen to this:

A couple days ago I found an angel in one of the consignment stores I stop at once in awhile on my way to work. I saw a nice angel for $15. Mom loves to collects angels. I am always looking for angels for her.

On the way home Saturday night, I stopped and got a card and flowers to go with the angel at the store. I got a flower in a pot so we can plant it in the yard later. The flower fell over on the way home and got the card a little wet but not too bad.

Mom had to work a few hours this morning. After, church I pickup her up and took her home to clean up and change her clothes. Then we heading to Ryan's, which is a buffet restaurant in Asheville to meet up with my brother, Tim. We leave the choice of where to eat to mom. After lunch, mom and I visited my sister, Mary and her kids and then my brother, Stephen and sister, Lisa.

She was happy to see most of the family on Mother's Day.

Switching Out The Old Outlets

This weekend's house project was doing the outlets in my bedroom and replacing the handle on the sliding glass door. I planned on changing out the outlets a lot soon but kept getting busy with other things around the house and life events. I did two outlet a couple weeks ago and finished the rest this afternoon.

As you can see the old outlets were in bad shape. They had paint on and in them and I had to break the face plate to get some of them off.

The new outlets look so much better then the old outlet. It improve the look of the room and I have more useable outlets to plug things in my room.

I plan to continue to work on the little project here and there around the house and make it good better for Jo Anne when she gets here. There are a couple projects I waiting for her to get here so she can help me decide on design and color of them.

Checking New Stores Out In Asheville

I was surprised to have tonight of from work since we have been working a lot of overtime. I was happy to

get the night off some I could take mom to the new Publix and the new outlet stores in Asheville, North Carolina. Publix opened their first store in the Asheville area after years of hearing they where coming in the area. Publix is a Florida based grocery store chain. Mom has been bugging me to take her to Publix when it opens since the announce the store was coming to South Asheville. Mom and I enjoyed looking around the new Publix. We brought a couple things but it was hard to really do any shopping since they were so busy today. They opened on Wednesday and people are still coming to the store to check they out. Many people have been waiting for Publix to come into the area. I hope they open a store in Hendersonville closer to my house. Until then I am sure mom and I will make a trip to Asheville once in a while to shop at Publix store.

After checking out Publix, Mom and I headed over to the Asheville Outlets that just opened Friday. I enjoyed seeing the stores that are there and going to open soon. It is nice that when I want to going shopping at outlet store I do not have to go to South Carolina, Tennessee or Georgia now. I guess I will go back to the outlet store by my self some time so I can check the stores out better. I did look around in the Nike Store. It was smaller store that some of the other outlet stores I been too. I wish companies like Nike, that had outlet stores would carry close if not all of their product lineups. I liked the new Asheville Outlets and they are a great replacement for the Biltmore Square Mall which over the years had become little more then the indoor flea market. It is nice how they basically just removed the roof off the center part of the old mall. They have parts of the walkways are covered. Even with it begin busy there it seemed to be relaxing.

Today turned out to be a great day for shopping or at least looking around the stores.
