2014 Comes To An End

It is hard to believe that the end of 2014 is here. I sent the last week, being sick. I got sick the day after Christmas. I am glad I did not miss any work. I had last Thursday and Friday off and only had to work Monday and Tuesday this week. The days off had given me time to rest and take care of myself. If I would not have lost my Holiday pay, I would have at least taking Monday off. I do not feel bad about going to work sick about over half my coworkers at work have the same thing. It seems we got it at the same time too.

This Christmas was a good Christmas. My aunt surprised my mom by coming for Christmas dinner. She was not going to come because she did not have the money for gas for the trip up here. My cousin, managed to come up with so money and my aunt let me know but asked to keep it a secret from my mom. Mom and I got gifts for the kids and my brother and sister. I even managed to send a package of Christmas gifts to Jo Anne and her family. We had a issue with customs in the Philippines. FedEx did a great job at helping me result the issue. The customer service person from FedEx told me that over half the customs issues he helped people with were from the Philippines. Thanks to customs the package was late arriving the day after Christmas. But I was not charged any customs fees. Everyone enjoyed the gifts.

It has turned out that 2014, has been another year of waiting for Jo Anne and I on her Visa. We should be hearing a decision soon. I pray it is the approval. I do not have the money to appeal again. We thank all that are praying for us. We are should that we will be blessed with the approval we have been waiting for in 2015.

Mom and I are going to have our New Years Eve party tonight to ring in the New Year. We got chips and crackers with cheese and dips. I will try to to make sausage balls to night. We also deli spirals. I have some beer and mom has her wine coolers salute the New Year at midnight.

We will have New Years dinner with some family tomorrow afternoon. It is good to see the family but I am glad that the next holiday the family gathers is Easter is in April.

It feels like a lot of famous people I grow up seeing on TV died in 2014. Here is a little list of the some of the people we lost this past year.

  • Shirley Temple
  • Robin Williams
  • Joan Rivers
  • Joe Cocker
  • Richard Attenborough
  • Casey Kasem
  • Ralph Waite
  • Ann B. Davis
  • Mickey Rooney
  • Phil Everly
  • Pete Seeger
  • Ariel Sharon
  • Sid Caesar
  • Harold Ramis

I hope to have time to do a post tomorrow. I hope all of you have a wonderful year ahead in 2015.

Dinner And A Movie With Mom

Mom and I headed up to Biltmore Park in Asheville for what seems to have become an annual thing for us of a dinner and a movie. Mom and I enjoy going to Biltmore Park for shopping and eating out.

We ate at Hickory Tavern which we enjoyed. The service was a little slow but the it was good service. I had the Black and Blue Burger. It has to be the best Black and Blue Burger I have had. They have tons of televisions with several different games ball games on them. The main game of the night is played on a huge television in the high seat section. If you like sports Hickory Tavern is a place for you.

After we ate we heading down to the theater to see the final Hobbit movie, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I have been waiting all year for this movie. Peter Jackson did not appointment me with another great movie.

After the movie, Mom and I stopped at the Cold Stone Creamery and got some ice cream. Since it was not too cold outside we walked around and looked at the lights as we ate the ice cream. Mom and I had a enjoyable night.

New Sofa and Loveseat

The new sofa and loveseat, my mom and I brought this past weekend was delivered this morning. The delivery guys did a great job at getting it in the front door. I had to take the door of the hinges so they could get the sofa in the door.

The living room looks so much better now with the old sofa and loveseat gone and the new sofa and loveseat in place. Now I can lay on the sofa and be comfortable and not have to worry about sinking into the hole in the sofa. As you can see in the pictures Rayna loves the new sofa.

One more piece in place in making the house a home. Next thing is to find a coffee table and some end tables with a couple lamps. I think the house is rest to have a party in January for my friends and people who helped me get the house. I also plan to dedicate the house at that time.

Busy With The Holidays

This month has been a busy one for me. I have been doing projects around the house, work, my online store, family stuff and holiday stuff.

Last weekend, I spend time working on my online store and it was my nephew's tenth birthday. I have been having a good month in sales so far this month. On Saturday night, my mom and I took Jason to Asiana in Skyland, North Carolina (South Asheville) for his birthday dinner.

After dinner we when to see Shadrack Christmas Wonderland at the Western Carolina Ag Center.

Then last Sunday, my sister had a birthday party for Jason at her house. I spend the morning running around town getting things for the party while she got the house ready for the house. Sunday afternoon, my brother, Tim dropped off a Christmas tree for mom and me. I got the tree setup on Monday morning and mom decorated it Monday night.

This weekend, my mom and I brought a new sofa and loveseat. The store will be delivering it on Thursday. Our old sofa have bit the dust with the string breaking so the cushions sink down into the sofa. I am not looking forward to trying to get rid of the old sofa and loveseat since the furniture store will not get the old ones away. Ah, back in t he day when the furniture store would do that. I also got new smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector for the house. I am happy to see the house come together and become more of a home.

Town Without Cell Phones

In today's world, with almost everyone having a sell phone that there is a town where there are no cell phones. I found this video on YouTube from National Geographic about Pocahontas County in West Virginia what is within what is called the National Radio Quiet Zone. The quiet zone was created for the radio telescopes in the area.

As much as I use my cell phone each day, I could not imagine living without my cell phone. Can you live in an area where you could not use cell phones?

Holidays In Full Swing

I meant to start posting more but here lately I have been busy and when I do not have things to do I feel to tired to really do anything. The Holiday Season is in full swing now. Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is not that far off. When my two weeks of vacation from work and Thanksgiving break, I ended up only working 7 and a half days in November. I had been trying to work on being thankful for things in my life not just around Thanksgiving Day. The past month has been full of things to be thankful for.

I am thankful to have a job that I have vacation pay. It is good to take time off from your work to relax and get your mind on other things. Hopefully, when we get back to work we are rested and can focus better on work. As for work, it felt good to go back and here it took three people to do all the work that I do everyday mostly by myself. At work, I work hard and enjoy my job. I prefer to be somewhere else then work but it is my job that makes the other things I like to do possible. I hope I have a good balance of work and enjoying life.

I a thankful for my online store. Sales have been a little slow of later. I sent a few days on my vacation working on getting some more books listed for my customers. Sales have picked up this past week. I am looking forward to a busy Christmas Shopping season. With my new house, I am starting to work out the organization to make the listing of the items I sell easier. I have book that are not listed in my guess room and garage. The items I have listed are in my office. I need to get my friends Seth to come over to help me move the books I have left in the garage into the guest room. This will make it easier to get to the books and the guest room is a safer environment for them. At the old place I lived at I had no room to move around with the books for my store. My front bedroom was completely filled for the none listed books and other stuff. My living room was full of books that were listed and not listed with hardly any room to move around. The rest of the place was full of supplies and more books and other items for the store. In the new house, I has enough room to have all my store stuff in the house and still my room to enjoy my house.

I am thankful for my new house. Having a house of my own was one of my life goals. It feels so good to have my own house and have the responsibility that comes with having my own house. Thanksgiving was good because I had unexpected house guest for Thursday night. It was nice to have room for them and not have to worry about a landlord complaining I had people staying at my house. My aunt and my cousin with his family stay Thursday night before heading back home Friday morning. It was their first time seeing the house and they loved it. Thanksgiving Day went really good. I am glad mom had the day off. Mom and I had 14 guest for Thanksgiving dinner. I sent most of my day cooking dinner with a short break to go get my brother, Stephen, and his girlfriend, Velma. After dinner, I took my cousin and his wife and kids out to look at Christmas lights.

The only thing missing was my Love, Jo Anne. Even with them not meeting her in person yet my family has made her part of the family. My sister and aunt talk with her regularly online. I think they are almost as excited about her coming as I am. I just hate that the government is being a pain in the matter. I am sure things will work out soon for us. I am so thankful to have Jo Anne is my life. She keeps me going and brightens my days.

God has given my more blessings then I can count and talk about. My family is one of the best blessings even when they drive me crazy. Besides the time I focus on God, my family is the best part of the holidays.

I looking forward to the next few weeks and Christmas. I am planning to have a party at the house for a few friends and the realtor to come see the house. I will have the family back over for Christmas. I plan to finish the the Holidays with New Years Eve with just mom and me.

Window Treatments Coming Along

While I have been on vacation from work, I have been working on some things around the house. My main project has been getting the window treatments up for the living room. Today while looking through Lowe's again, I decided to those eggplant colored curtains to use in the living room. I was going to get more panels of the white sheet curtains I already have up but decided to wait on them and try the eggplant curtains.

When I got back home, I put the eggplant curtains up on the window. I like the resulting look. I am sure it will not win me any interior design awards but I like it. When mom got home from work and saw the new curtains said she liked it too. I need to get four more panels of the white sheer curtains and two more panels of the eggplant panels. I will start looking around for something to use for some tiebacks. Besides looking good, it gives us the privacy which we like. I like having the room a little dark the curtains still let the natural light from the outside in.

Once I get the windows completely done, I will work on getting new furniture for the living room. The sofa in comfortable but it with the loveseat needs to be replaced. The cushions will sink down into the sofa if you sit or lay on sofa the wrong way. Mom and I never really liked the white. I saw a three piece coffee and end table set for $150 last week at a second hand store that I like. Unfortunately, I did not have the money to get it at the time. Maybe, I will be lucky and they will still be there after I pay my bills and finish with the window treatment. I have been looking for some lamps too. One step at a time, I will get the house looking more like the home Jo Anne and I want.

Productive Day

Today was an enjoyable and productive day. I worked on posting more books on my online store while mom was at work. Mom and I when shopping after she got off from work.

I managed to upload over 30 listings to eBay today. I sold one of the books I posted this morning as I was working on more listings. The book was an old sales book for an apartment building in Chicago. It sold for $30. I am excepting a good Holiday Shopping Season, even with the slow start. I only sold 4 books so far this month.

After mom got off from work, we heading up to the stores around the Asheville Airport. We were looking for curtains for the house. Trying to get curtains for the living room is turning out to by impossible. I am thinking looking online for curtains is the way I am going to have to go. It seems all the stores have the same three colors. I did manage to find a door mat for the front door. It should add a nice touch for the holidays.

Mom and I also looked for an egg tray and a turkey tray for Thanksgivings Day Dinner. The eggs try was $19.95 at Pier 1 and we got the Turkey tray on sale for $9.99 at the World Market.

We also found a nice tea pot at World Market. I cannot wait to use it, to make some hot tea.

The shopping trip was productive since we did find some good things for the house. I just wish we could find some curtains for the living room.

Ah! Home Improvement On Vacation

I have the next two weeks off from work. I spent the weekend resting. Today, I started to work on some of the projects, I have to do around the house. I have to say my vacation is off to a good start.

Today's project was getting curtains for the living room windows. I only got the white sheer curtains today. I could not find draperies in a color or pattern I liked. At some point, I plan to paint the walls blue or purple so I not really looking for draperies that match the yellow on the walls now. The white curtains look a lot but the the ugly brown with rose design curtains that were hanging up on the windows when I got the house. They did not even cover the widows. The hardware was messed up too and did not hold the curtain rods right. The new rods look so much better too.

My mom and I, are heading down to Greenville, South Carolina tomorrow to look around the stores down there. I hope to find some nice draperies. we should have more choices with the different stores down there. As time goes on, I will be getting new furniture and lamps for the living room. I saw a nice coffee table and end table set today for $150 for the three. I would have brought them if I already have the curtains already. I hope they will be there later when I have more money. I do feel good about getting the curtain rods and curtains setup in the livings room. I am glad to start focusing on my house instead of my car. Slowly, I will get things done around the house to make it a home for Jo Anne and I. At least with the improvements and other things I do and get for the house is like an investment.

Car Problems Agian And Voting

So far this has been an interesting week. On Monday, the check engine light came on in my car when I started to head to work. I was worried because of the issues I have had in the past two months. I planned on voting Tuesday and I was determined not to miss voting. The Senate race in North Carolina was one of the biggest in the country. I did not care for either Kay Hagan or Tom Tilas. I voted because I believe it is the duty of a citizen to vote. I am a limited government person. I believe government should only be big enough to take care of the things it is responsible for. I believe neither Hagan or Tilas will out the things that need to be cut. I do not want to get into a full out political rant here so I leave it at that. I am glad that I got to vote and things went smoothly and quickly when I voted.

Okay now for the car, I took the car into the garage this morning. It turned out to be a fuel valve that needs to be replaced. The valve alone cost over $300. My mechanic said I should be okay to drive around with the valve stuck like it is for now. I will need to get it replaced before I get my car inspected. The mechanic told me the valve is stuck right were I would want it stuck if it got stuck.

I hope that I have good sales during the Christmas shopping season so I will have the money to cover the car repair. I have the next two weeks off. I plan to work on listed as much books and other stuff on my online store while I am off from work. I also plan to do some blogging too.

First Snow for Winter 2014

Some of the tree still have green leaves on them. Many trees still have their leaves on them. It seems too early to be have snow around here. Western North Carolina had its first snow last night at reach south of Asheville.

Rayna checking out the snow on the patio.

The rest of my backyard covered in snow.

My car before I cleaned it off to take mom to work.

Such a pretty view of the house from the road.

The good thing the road where still warm so the snow did not stick to the road.

Food Journey: Trick or Treat

With Halloween on Friday, many kids will be going Trick or Treating. My sister, Mary, have been talking about where to take my niece and nephews for Trick or Treat. It is nice to know that many of the things we did when I was young are still doing thing for kids today on Halloween.

When I was young, I did not go Trick or Treating around my neighborhood excepted my elderly neighbor across the road from us. That was to check on her and give her company for a little. My grandparents and my mom would take me and my siblings to the mall and to the stores on Mains Street in town. We would go from store to store and the stores and restaurant owners and staff would stand outside passing out candy and other treats. The church with I am now a member has had candy and games for the kids since I was a kid. My adults that run the games for the event at the church went to it as a kid and have good memories. It still is a big hit with the kids. To round out our Trick or Treat, we would stop at a local clothing store that would hand out a dollar with some candy. It was a big hit. They stopped handing out the dollar now but that still hand out candy.

It is good to see some of the things I did for Halloween still going on today. It was a lot of fun collection all that candy. I would eat it for a couple days after and then my grandfather would finish it. I have never been a big candy eater even when I was a kid.

Good End To An Interesting Week

Last weekend, I was without my car since it was sitting in the service department. I am happy to say I got my car back on Monday. The whole experience with the dealership with this event makes me not want to do business with the dealership's service department again. I was lied to and left feeling if they knew what they were doing I would have had my car back on Friday and would not have been without my car over the weekend. The computer is my car went and and my mechanic had my car towed to the dealership when he could not get the new computer or my old computer to initialize. The dealership was suppose to put the new computer back in and flash it to get it to work. The new computer was a used computer from the junkyard. The dealership left the old computer in and flashed it. Which I praised God that it works for now. The part that gets me upset little is that my mechanic left the fuse out to cut the power off to the computer. The mechanic at the dealership did not even check the fuse when he worked on my car Thursday. Any one who works on computers there are somethings you want to cut the power off to the computer. First you do not check the fuse to see it is out and then you tell me I had a bad fuse. How can it be a bad fuse when there was no fuse? How about telling me the truth when you are working on my car. If the dealership told me the truth about my car I would not be pissed off at them. If I was told the truth, I would not be mad about not have my car over the weekend because I would have said people over look things. Since the dealership's service department lied to me, I am not only mad about being lied to and being without my car for I longer time then I should have been and I lost my trust to do business with the dealerships service department.

When I am doing business with someone I am truthful in my business transaction. I do not except a mechanic to tell me everything that they do with my car but I except them not to tell me they did something when they did not do it. If I did not trust you in business, I will not do business with you. If I trust you in business, I will do business with you.

The rest of my week went good. Work went smoothly. I went to a training meeting at work for a team I volunteer for to help improve things at work. After the meeting, I felt I lot better about being part of the team and the reason the team is being formed. Not only do I believe the team will help improve thing at work but I get overtime pay when I go to the meeting. I like working for the company I work for. I am happy to see them take action to improve the good job they already do. There is always room to improve and you cannot make everyone happy.

I planned to get some more books listed on Saturday but that did not happen. I did get some work on my online store done. I got my listing program updated and updated my current listings to prepare for the coming Christmas shopping season. I will try to get the listings done sometime this week.

Today, Sunday, was a very good day. I decided to go to the 9:45 service at church so I could try a new Bible Fellowship Class out at 11:10. The new class is lead by one of my old Sunday School teacher who just returned from two years in London, England. He was in London doing work for his job. Today, was also the first day Pastor Steve was back as Senior Pastor. I enjoyed both of their teachings and they both have the same style of teaching. I am sure God will bless me with both of their teaching.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, ~ Ephesians 1:3

Food Journey: My Favorite Fast Food Restaurants

I do not eat a lot of fast food. I thought for this weeks Food Journey, I would share my favorite fast food restaurants.

Burger King

What can I say? I love to have a whopper once in a while. I used to worked at a local Burger King several years ago. While working there I did not lose my taste for the charbroiled taste of Burger King's hamburgers. I did manage to lose almost 100 pounds while working at Burger King. I did eat the food just watched how much I eat. I have always liked Burger King's fries over the other fast food restaurant that you do not see on my list today that I lot of people claim have better fries. I disagree with that. I just wish Burger King would settle on want fries they service. I like trying the different versions of the Whooper when they do different promotions.

Chick-fil-a

When I was young the only Chick-fil-a in the area was at the mall in Asheville, North Carolina. It was a treat to get some waffle fries when we went to the mall. Now there is a Chick-fil-a in town. I like to stop in once in a while for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Out of all the fast food restaurants, Chick-fil-a has the cleanest restaurants and the most professional employees. My favorite meal to order is the Spicy Chicken Sandwich meal.

Arby's

When I am in the mood for roast beef, Arby's is the place I go. The beef and cheddar or the roast beef classic are a good standard but they have some specialty sandwich that are really good too. I do not care much for the curly fries. A lot of times I will just get a sandwich and a drink when I go there.

Jollibee

My first food in the Philippines was a hamburger and fries from Jollibee. Nothing like good memories to make a place special for you. That is not the only reason I like Jollibee. Jo Anne and I eat at Jolibees a couple times while I was in the Philippines and I enjoyed all the food I tried.

Taco Bell

Ah, Americanized Mexican food of Taco Bell. My best memories of Taco Bell is stopping there for dinner before church on Sunday night in high school with my friend Kevin and I treated Jo Anne to Taco Bell when I visited her in the Philippines. I do eat different things on the menu but the main thing I get is the Grilled Stuff Burrito.

Hardees

Hardees is my official fast food breakfast restaurant. Out if all the fast food restaurants, I have eating breakfast at Hardee's has the best. I am glad to see their lunch menu getting better too. They have some great hamburgers now but it is their breakfast I enjoy the most here.

Jack in the Box

Jack in the Box is one of the few restaurants or stores that Hendersonville got before Asheville. If I remember correctly, Jack in the Box had some bad press right before their store opened in Hendersonville. I think they recovered very well from the bad press.

I really like their Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger. Nothing like just meat and cheese, and more meat and cheese. I would get fat and sick if I eat their too much. I cannot imagine to fat and calories their meals have but they taste good.

A Few Days Without My Car

Since getting in my new house, I have spent more time and money dealing with my car then my house. On Wednesday, I took my car to the garage for the third time since getting my house. This time my check engine light came on and the code reader was flashing the code for the sensor my mechanic replaced two weeks ago. After checking over the car, the mechanic and I agreed that the ECU was bad. I made an appointment to bring the car back on Thursday, while my mechanic got the parts. On Thursday, I took the car in and the work begun on my car. After a couple hours of waiting my I was told the ECU from the junk yard would not initialize. I would have to they the car to the dealership and have them flash the computer and download the programing for the ECU. My mechanic and his crew put my old ECU back in and it would not work too. My mechanic said he would have my car towed to the dealership and get me a rental for the night.

One of the guys from the garage drove me over to the car rental place. I got a Chevy Sonic. The mechanic paid for the rental so I could get to work for the night. He also paid for the tow over to the dealership.

On Friday morning, I checked with the dealership and they told me they flashed the computer and the car was still not working and that there was something else going on with my car. The service manager told me that it would be Monday before they could check out my car and get it working. I told them to check it out and get it working because it did not make since to get the car towed back to my mechanic's garage. After finishing up with the service manager, I called and talked with my mechanic. He told me that want most likely is happening is the guy who know the most about computer in the cars at the dealership is not there today or is busy with other cars. We will see if they get my car working on Monday.

I trusted my mechanic because he has been honest with me since I have been going to him and he has not tried to get me to do things on my car that I did not need done. I am not a trained mechanic but I know somethings about car and know people who our trained mechanics I can ask about things I do not know. I have always been mistrusting of the service department at the dealership. In defense of the dealership, I have gotten good deals on the cars I have gotten from them including my current car.

Since I have been at my house all day today, I managed to get a couple things done that I have been meaning to do but have been putting off. I replaced the door knob on the front door and finished setting up my bedroom. My bed room looks more like a bedroom now I got my bed put together.

I hope after I get my car back from the dealership, I will not have any more problems for awhile with it. I want to focus on my house. I have a lot of things to do around the house to finish making it a home. I still have the curtains the seller had up in the living room up. I have been looking at curtains and trying to decide on a nice set. I also needed to paint the living room, dining room and hallway. I have plans to replace all the outlets in the house. I am even thinking of putting one outlet in the kitchen and one in my bedroom that has USB ports for charging of cell phones. As I said before, there is a lot to do around the house and the list seems to be growing faster then I get the thing done.

I hope to get my car back on Monday. I hate having to rely on others to get to the places I need to go. At least, I have been able to get somethings done around the house this weekend.

Where Did The Week Go?

I had plans to do other post this week. I am not sure where the time went. I was busy at work and did manage to get some of the things I plan to do around the house done but not all. Since, I gotten the house I have had my car in the garage twice and it looks like I am going to have to take it in again this week. The first time was new tires and alignment. The second was to replace a fuel filter and a sensor. The weeks trip to the garage looks like it will be to replace the sensor the mechanic left in with the hope it was reading bad because the other sensor was bad. Cars are a pain but I am glad I have one. God has provided the money for all the repairs but I rather be spending the money on the house instead.

I got all my listed books for my online store on the bookshelves. I still need to finish setting up my office and my bedroom. I still have boxes of stuff sitting in my office I need to put in the guest / storage room in the house. For my bedroom, I need to get the bed frame put together. I was going to that this afternoon but I fell asleep after I got home from church. I didn't feel that tired. I guess it was from dealing with the traffic in town this afternoon. Mom needed somethings from the store.

I need to get curtains for the living room. I keep putting them off because of the car going to the garage. Then I keep thinking if I should paint the walls in the living room first or wait to save more money up. I see the curtains as the more important part of the project. I can live with the yellow walls for now. I do not like the curtains hanging up now left by the seller and they do not cover the whole window. I got some paint color sample cards from Lowe's, Saturday when I went there to get some supplies for a electrical outlet removal on the patio. I think I decided on a light blue color to paint the walls but I am sure I will change my mind several times. I cannot make my mind up on the curtains. I will be happy when I get the car settled down and get the focus on the house.

I have been looking at getting some new furniture to replace the old worn out pieces of furniture my mom and I have now. Now that I have my only house, I am looking at things like furniture as an investment and not just a place to sit or put something. I am sure as time goes on Jo Anne and I will have a lovely place we call home. Yes, I am waiting I little for Jo Anne to get here. I am taking care of the important things for now.

I hope that I will be able to get more things done around the house this week. I am making process on things.

Welcome Back Pastor Steve

There are a lot of changes going on in my life right now. I got my new house and all the changes that come with owning your first house. As I told you before, the pastor of my church left back in the spring. This weekend we where presented with a perspective Senior Pastor to vote on as a church body. When the announcement was made last Sunday, many people where excited to hear the good news. Steve Scoggins, our pastor from 1992 to 2001, was the prospect. He left 13 years ago to become the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in Opelika, Alabama. He has received God's calling to come back to Hendersonville First Baptist Church.

Pastor Steve had several meetings with the church staff and the congregation this past week. He preached all three services this morning. At the end of the services the members of Hendersonville First Baptist voted to call Steve Scoggins as our Senior Pastor once again. I am looking forward to him being our pastor again, I grew a lot spiritually under the teaching of Pastor Steve. I cannot wait to see how God grows me under Pastor Steve again.

Hendersonville First Baptist Church has been blessed with many great men of God to serve as Pastor. Pastor Steve is not the first to leave and return to be the pastor a second time. I am sure the church will continue to grow under Pastor Steve leadership because of his heart for God and God's People.

Starting To Look Like A Home

Last weekend, I got all my stuff moved out of my old place and moved to my new house. I cleaned the old place a little and turned the keys in on Monday. This weekend, we plan to get the rest of my mom's stuff out of her apartment. Mom has done most of the organizing in the new house. I got most of my office setup and working on putting the books from my online store on the shelves.

I am loving living in my new house. It is nice and quiet in the neighborhood. It is so nice not to hear dogs barking at everything that moves or people arguing. At the new house, I may here a dog during the day but not all the time. Just hearing the noise of people coming and going home and trucks making deliveries. It is so nice to be able to go outside and relax and enjoy the quietness.

I hope to get back to posting regularly on the blog next week. I hope to have everything setup this weekend at the new house.

First Night In The New House

It has been a busy week getting the house ready and moving stuff. My brother, Tim helped me move some of the bigger stuff to day and will help me in the morning get the rest of the big stuff from mom's old place.

I am glad I got the bed over to the new house so I can sleep here tonight. I gave Jo Anne and her dad a tour of the new house over Skype. I cannot wait to get Jo Anne here. I sorry for the short post but I am tired and going to take my rest now. Another long day ahead tomorrow. The good thing is it will start in the new house.

Starting To Move

Sorry for not posting anything in awhile. I have been busy with my new house. The closing was on Wednesday. I have been getting the house setup and things moved in. My plan is to have everything moved In by the end of next weekend.

My mom and sister are going to be helping me clean the new house Sunday after noon and hopefully get the curtains hung. I hope to get all the books for my online store that I have not listed yet moved over to the new house. Which will give me more room to pack up the rest of my stuff at the old place. I am so excited about getting into the new house and cannot wait for the first night where I can sleep in the new house.

As I have been getting things setup I have been coming across different problems with the house which I have been working on fixing. My friend, Keith, who is an electrician, is going to update the electrical in the house. I need to wait for him to finish his work before I can move the washer and dryer since part of the job includes raising the floor in the utility room. The platform will make it easier to run wires and pumping in that section on the house since it is on a slab.

I worry about the cost of some of the things I need to do but I trust God will provide for my needs for the new house. I got some money at the closing to cover the closing cost. I also will get a refund for the home inspection hopefully within the week. I already got so well needed new tires for my car with an alignment which will help the move go smoother. The bad thing is the car repairs cost me $600. I still need to pay Keith for his work, get refrigerator and a lawn mover. I'll need to now the lawn at least once before fall. I got curtains to put up on the windows. I have a couple other projects to do to make the house livable and safe. I would like to put so of the money aside for the all important emergency fund.

Ah the joys of home ownership. It is stressing but at least I have the power to do things that need to be done and do not need to wait on the landlord to take care of it.

I am planning to have one of the ministers at my church to do a house dedication. God provided the house to Jo Anne and I and we want to dedicate it to him. We want the thing that happen in the house to my a blessing to your family, friends and many other people around the world.

All we need now is the approval of Jo Anne's Visa. I wish I could share what is going on there but we would like to keep that private at this time. Jo Anne and I would like to thank you for you continued prayers for us. We believe God is working the issues out for us to be together soon.

Even with us being so far apart, Jo Anne has been very involved in finding the house. She would look at the MLS listings and I would send her photos of the houses I liked and looked at. When we both was our new house we both agreed even before looking at it in person to put a offer on the house. God opened all the doors for us to get the house.

We had a great team helping us find of new home. I would like to thank Susan the realtor who did a wonderful job. She have done some great follow up work after the closing. She is a true professional. Derek with the montage company and his assistant Roxanne for their work in making the loan happen.

If things go as planned my mom and I will be moved into the new house next weekend. I will be glad to get fully moved into the house. I am sure I will have lots of store to share on this blog with the happens at the house.

The barn just before you get the the falls.

Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly that I saw at the falls.

Now for my adventure up the Bridal Veil Falls. There was several people at the falls walking up and down and enjoying the falls.

House Process Craziness

I have been wanting to post more post over the past couple weeks but it seems like every time I sat down to work on a post I couple a call or email about a form I needed to sign or some paper to take to the loan company. I think I signed a form about lead based paint four times already. For the last two weeks, I have been trying to get my landlord to do a rent verification for the loan company. I think the loan processor, my landlord and I have been playing phone tag. My landlord finally talked with the loan processor on Friday. He said he will fill the form he needs to fill out and send it in the the loan company. I will be so glad to have this process over with. Right now the closing is set for the end of the month. I will spend my Labor Day Weekend cleaning the new house and starting to move in. I am so excited. I cannot wait to bring Jo Anne home to our new house. No new on her Visa but Jo Anne and I believe God is putting things in place for us to be together.

I have been collecting boxes from work to use during the move. I started to plan out what order to move thing to the house. I plan to move my none listed books to the new house first to free up the room to pack up everything else. I have been trying to decide if I should go with the cable company or the phone company for my internet and television at the new house. I have my friend and mentor who is an electrician ready to come and work on some of the electrical stuff I need done in the house. I need to find a refrigerator too. In my searching for a house I looked a few houses that the house did not come with a refrigerator.

I hope there is no more problems to take care of for the house until after the closing. I want to focus on getting ready to move in and getting the utilities setup. I sure things will be okay with the loan paperwork now. I have some friends ready to help me with the move. I will update you as I can here. Looking forward to the work projects around the house.

Points Of Lights Tyler Perry

I want to share this video of Tyler Perry talking about the Points of Light in his life and how they helped him become a Point of Light to other people.

Ghostly Moments

There are several blogs that I follow. This week I read a post titled Believe on the blog, Crystal Jigsaw written by Kathryn Brown who is a paranormal author from the United Kingdom. I the post she talked about how her and a friend where sitting and talking in her house when they heard a man say "hello." When they looks to see who say it, they found no one. I found this story interesting because I have had a similar experience. I believe, I have talked about my story before here on Mountain Highs and Valley Lows. I was working at a local Burger King years ago. One day, I was in the kitchen with one of my coworkers talking since we were not busy at the time. As we were talking we both heard a female voice say "Hello," just like someone walking up and say hello. When I heard the voice, my coworkers got a funny look on her face. I walked around to look up front only to see one of my male coworkers standing up front waiting for a customer to come in. The only other person in the restaurant was the manager who was busy doing paperwork in the office and it was not her voice we heard. The coworker, I was talking to refused to admit she heard the voice when I asked her about it. Her and the manager with one other of my workers, heard a voice about a week before, I heard the voice and they could not find anyone in the restaurant.

There are my strange things that happen in this world. At this time, I do not believe ghost are spirits trapped on this side and have not crossed-over. I believe ghost are energy that are recorded in the environment in places.

Do you have a ghostly moment? What do you believe ghost are?

Sadness And Happiness Of Life

Sorry guys, that I have been quiet here the past two weeks. I have been busy with house stuff and family stuff.

Last Wednesday, the seller finally accepted my offer on a house. It is a two bedroom house. I am going to made the old garage which was converted into a bonus room into my bedroom. The two bedrooms will become my mom's room and a guest bedroom. I have so happy that I will have a nice and safe home for Jo Anne when she gets here. I love house and believe it will make a great house for many years to come. I have been gathering the papers I need for the loan and scheduling appointments for inspections and other people I need to see for the house. I had the home and pest inspection on Monday and it went good. Nothing major needing repairs. I need patch up a couple place and replace a couple things here and there but nothing needing to be done immediately. The closing is set for the end of August. Money is going to be tight for the next month or so while I get things settled with the house. Trusting God to provide the money I need for everything. I look forward to sharing my first time house ownership with you.

It was a few months of planning and the rain cleared up in time for my sister, Lisa's wedding. For once Lisa found a guy I like. Scott treats Lisa like gold. My mom and brother, Stephen, know Scott from when he went to school with Stephen. Mom bought the rings for them and the group home where they live planned and hosted the wedding. It was a very nice wedding. Stephen gave Lisa away. My niece, Julie and the daughter of one of the staff members was the flower girl. My nephew, Victor, was the ring boy. It was a beautiful wedding. I hope it is the start of many years of happy marriage for them

Now I have some sad news to tell you. My Uncle John passed away on Saturday. He went to the hospital about two weeks ago. We where hoping he would pull through this time. He passed with family around him including in first son which I helped find last year. I wish they had more time to get to know one another but they where happy with the time they got to share. Uncle John did a lot to help his family and my family. He will be missed. I look forward to seeing him when my time to go home comes. I got to meet Uncle John's first son, who we call, Big John, at his memorial service for the first time. I had only talked to to Big John on the phone before Sunday. Big John and I spent time talking about his dad and sharing memories of a man who made a big impacted of both of our lives.

My Aunt Sandy and Big John

Uncle John overcome drinking problem and battled with Muscular dystrophy. Even with the challenges he had in life he worked hard to provide for his family. He shared his love of cars with his family. I asked him many times about how it fix something of my car. He will be deeply missed.

I often say, "It is the sad and bad times in life that make us treasure the happy and good times in life."
