Tupang Ligaw By Rez Valdez

I love the sound of Tagalog (Filipino) being sung. Here is a video of Rez Valdez singing Tupang Ligaw. Tupang Ligaw means lost sheep and the song is about how material possessions matter the most is you have Christ in your heart.

A Very Happy Birthday!

Today was my birthday and I had a very enjoyable day. I was waking up early from Rayna being a little fussy. After several attempts to get back to sleep, I just got up and got ready to see my Love on web cam which I do every Saturday. Jo Anne and I enjoyed seeing one another on web cam. It was a great start to my birthday. I also received a few emails, calls and greeting cards wishing me a happy birthday. Jo Anne managed to do all of them. One of my coworkers, who is a old lady I enjoy joking around with at work, gave me a card with some on money in it. I plan to use some of the money to get a six pack of Coke for her.

While I was talking with Jo Anne, my friend Seth showed up. After I finish talking with Jo Anne, Seth and I went out to do some photo request for Find-A-Grave and to find more graves for 2012 Grave Of The Day Project on my other blog, Spiritual Places, Spiritual Moments. We went to four cemeteries today. One of the photo request ended up being at one of the other cemeteries we went to instead of the cemetery that it said it was in. I'll have to fulfill the request tomorrow. I have several pictures for Spiritual Places, Spiritual Moments. You will see them as the dates come up.

Mom and I when to dinner at Two Guys Pizza and Ribs at 121 West Barnwell Street in Hendersonville. I have always heard a lot of good things about Two Guys Pizza and Ribs even when they were out by the YMCA. I was not disappointed in choosing to go there for my birthday dinner. Mom and I had the traditional Italian pizza and the garlic knots. The pizza tasted so good I could not stop eating until it was all gone. I liked how the inside of the restaurant looked. I plan on coming back to try their lunch buffet that I heard was excellent too. I would like to thank all the people who made this birthday a wonderful and very Happy Birthday!

Broke Cell Phone

While I did it again on Monday morning, my cell phone dropped off the table and hit the floor. When I picked it up off the floor the screen was cracked. I guess it hit just right to crack the screen because I have dropped cell phones before from higher and onto harder surfaces. Thank God, I have insurance on my cell phone. I filed the claim on Tuesday and got the replacement yesterday. Jo Anne and I use Yahoo Instant Messenger on our cell phones to talk with one another, so having a cell phone is very important to me.

Having my accident with my cell phone, I decided to make a list of ways cell phone can be lost or damaged.

1.You have the phone on vibrate and when some one rings you the phone vibrates off the table into a glass of water. Someone told me that they met someone that this happened too.
2.You drop the phone and it gets washed down a drainage drain. This happened to me with my last phone.
3.You cell phone goes through a wood chipper. I have seen this happen to a pager back when everyone had pager not cell phones. Remember to put your phone some where safe when operating a wood chipper.
4.You drop your phone in the lake while your fishing. I have heard many of these stories. I am glad I do not fish that much.
5.You drop your phone in the latrine while camping. Okay, I am not going down there to get it for you.
6.You are looking over the edge up at the top of the Empire State Building in New York City and your phone drops out of you pocket. I wonder how small the pieces will be when it hits the ground.
7.You dog eats your phone. Hey, some dogs will eat any thing. Glad my dog does not.
8.I think it is in Thailand where they have the monkeys on the city streets. While your watching the monkeys play with a cell phone and laughing until you realize the phone their playing with is yours.
9.Your drop your phone while you are getting in your and car do not realize it until it is too late. Yeah, your run over the phone. Fortunately, this has not happen to me but I have heard about it happening to people.
10.You lose your phone and you spend all day looking for it. You turned the ringer off too. To make it worse, when you find it, it is right in the happen or where you normally put it. Hey you know it has happened to you.

While I hope the above things do not happen to you or me any time soon. Some people just have bad luck with cell phones I guess.

When We Are Abused

This is the Spiritual Gleanings I got from church last Jan. 22, 2012

"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

When we experience abuse, it is natural to lash out at someone whether the abuser, another person, or God. Here are some suggestions for surviving an abusive situation and finding wholeness.

Do not blame God. God never instigates any kind of abuse. To do so would be totally opposite of everything He says. God tells us to love, serve, and encourage each other.
"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." Galatians 5:13

If you are going to blame somebody, blame the Devil because ultimately, he is the one behind all abuse.
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12

Forgive the abuser and anyone who allowed the abuse. This is difficult, and even harder to understand the pain of each situation. But the point is: harboring anger, resentment, and bitterness leaves us empty. An unforgiving spirit is worse than a cancer on the inside. Jesus went to the cross for every single sin any of us could possibly commit. The Lord is ultimately aware of the power of forgiveness, the releasing of hurts in our lives.

Choose the truth about yourself. You may have heard awful words aimed at you, but God knows those things are not true. The best way to find out the truth is to read the Bible. If you go through the New Testament and write down all the things that God says about you, I guarantee that you'll be standing on your tiptoes with your hands straight up into the sky praising Him and thanking Him for loving you the way He does.

Get Your Life in Focus

"Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I pres on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14

F -Fix your mind and your actions toward your GOAL

O - Observe the example of successful people

C - Consider the outcome of unfocused people

U - Use God's power in your life

S - Stand firm in the Lord

This is the message I heard from our church last Sunday. Apostle Paul teaches us about FOCUS, like runners who keep their eyes on their goal to win the race. As Christians, we are like olympic runners we need to keep our eyes on the goal.... the "Call of God." In order to win the prize we need to press on toward our goals, focus our eyes to Jesus, stand firm in our relationship with the Lord and stand firm in our service to Him. He wants us to prosper and succeed and live a victorious life. Christians must be fully charged to do the will of God.

Birthday Gift Of A Bullet For Robber

Saturday morning, two guys walk in to a Waffle House in South Carolina to rob the restaurant. While there guys did not get a great tasting waffle or hash brown all the way which they should have ordered. After they pulled their guns and made their order for the money and treating people in the restaurant with their guns. They found a customer, who had a concealed gun permit, with his gun pointed at them. In the end, the one robber got a birthday gift of a bullet not the money he was wanting. Yes, it was his nineteenth birthday and he got the just rewards for being stupid. His partner got away and later arrested.

I do not take any happiness in any ones death. I do support ones right to protect themselves and others from the stupidity of others. I believe the customer did the right thing. As for the robber, if you want money go get a job or start your own business. At the very least, take advantage of the benefits offered by the government. Do not go stealing money that someone else has worked hard for. If you think you are going to hurt the rich guys at the top of the company by robbing the business, you are wrong there. You end up hurting the employees there that work hard for the little bit of the money they take home. They do not need some selfish dummy stealing money from them.

A Package From Africa

One of the things I like about the internet is meeting people all around the world. Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting several people in different countries. As most of you know, I meet Jo Anne in a chat room online. One of my other friends that I met in the same chat room is my friend David from Uganda in Africa. David and I even through we never met, we have become like brothers. David has lost both is parents. David comes to me for advice and I try my best to give him good Godly advice. I am proud of the improvements David has done in his life.

I have sent David a couple packages. I have send no money and David has never asked for any money. A couple months ago, David told me he wanted to send me a package. It took him a little while to save the money to send the package. It cost a lot to send a package international if you never done it. I know it was a sacrifice for him just to send it and I will treasure his gift. David's gift included a shirt from Uganda, a piece of leather saying Greetings from Uganda, and a homemade card. I plan to wear the shirt to church and other special events.

After things get settle with Jo Anne and I, we hope to go visit David. It will nice to see where David lives and to see Lake Victoria the source of the Nile River.

Monday Musings: White, Black, Yellow, and Red

White, Black, Yellow, and Red
Can we live together?
We hate and love the same.
We hurt the same.
Feel the same joy.
We live on the same planet.
Breathe the same air.
We are the same on the inside.
Made by the same creator.
Our differences are minor.
Can we celebrate our differences?
Celebrate how we are the same?
Our differences and our likes make us human.
White, Black, Yellow, and Red

Melchora Aquino at 200 Years

Melchora Aquino de Ramos was a Filipina revolutionary. She was born on January 6, 1812 in Caloocan. She was the daughter of a peasant couple, Juan and Valentina Aquino. She never attended school, but was seemingly literate at a young age and talented as a singer. She performed at the Mass for her church as well as at local events. Melchora Aquino married Fulgencio Ramos, a village chief and had six children. When their youngest child was seven years old, Ramos died, leaving young Melchora as a single parent.

Last January 6, 2012, we commemorate the birth anniversary of Melchora Aquino who earned the name "Mother of Katipunan (revolution)" and also known as "Tandang Sora", where "Tandang" meant old. Melchora Aquino was known for her heroic contributions in the history of the Philippine revolution. The revolution broke out in 1896. She was 84 years at that time. Most of the wounded and sick Filipino revolutionaries sought refuge in her store. She not only gave them medical attention, but also encouraged the revolutionaries with prayers and motherly advice. Many revolutionaries also held secret meetings at her home. The Spaniards learnt about her activities and she was interrogated for the whereabouts of revolutionaries, especially, Andres Bonifacio. She was adamant and refused to provide any information to the Spanish. She was arrested and deported to the Mariana Islands.

In 1898, the United States took control of the Philippines and Aquino and other political exiles returned to Philippines. She died on March 2, 1919, at the age of 107. A Quezon City road and district were named after her.

Filipina revolutionary Melchora Aquino had been reburied last January 6, 2012, her 200th birthday, at the Tandang Sora Shrine in Banlat, Quezon City, her birthplace. Her recovered remains have been placed inside a wooden casket encased by glass and brought to the City Hall where a vigil was held overnight to honor Aquino.

Food Journey: Easy Blueberry Short Cake

I like to make quick little desserts every once in a while. This is a dessert that my grandmother made with strawberries when I was young. I seen the blueberries and decided to make it with the blueberries.

Here is what you will need:

1 – package of dessert shells (6) or pound cake.
1 - pint of blueberries
1 – 14 oz. package of blueberry glaze
whipped cream

First mix the blueberries and the blueberry glaze. If using pound cake, slice pound cake into six slices. Place dessert shells or pound cake on plate. Put blueberries and glaze mix on top the dessert shells or pound cake. Top with whipped cream. Most importantly enjoy!

This serves six people.

Busy Start To The New Year!

This year has gotten off to a busy start. I am working on a big project for my Spiritual Places, Spiritual Moments blog, cleaning and organizing my house and my mom checked on a new apartment. Work has been slow this week since the home office where most of the orders are processed is close for the week. I am sure we will be busy next week and maybe get some overtime.

If you have not checked my other blog, Spiritual Places, Spiritual Moments, out yet this year, please do. For 2012, I am doing a grave a day. I have enjoyed preparing for this project. I have found some interest head stones and also some people who made history.

I have been continuing my endless job of cleaning and organizing my house trying to get it ready for when Jo Anne gets here. I have focused on the inside this week due to the cold weather and first snow. The first snow only covered the ground with a dusting of snow but the ground has been frozen. I need to dig up a little dirt so I can put some drainage rock down in the parking area. After, I get the drainage rock in place I plan to put mulch down to make the parking area look nice.

My mom is checking on moving to a new apartment that will be on one floor and have no stairs to climb. She like the place she lives now but it is above a garage. The new place offers more services and cost less. She was not able to get all the paperwork together this time so they put her back on the waiting list. Maybe she can move there this summer. The new place is closer to my house.

So far, 2012 is off to a great start and I look forward to sharing the Mountain Highs and Valley Lows with you here. I hope all of you have a great and blessed 2012.

New Year Celebration: Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012!

Year 2011 has ended and as I look back to what had happened for the whole year, I can say God is truly faithful and just. I really thank the Lord for the successful operation of my Dad last February due to Prostate enlargement (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) and the biopsy result was benign. Indeed, God is a great healer. He also healed me from the infection that I got last 2010. After almost 3 years of waiting, I thank God for giving my Love Daniel a stable job and that way he able to file the paper works for my visa and now we are waiting to hear for the approval from the Homeland Security then from the State Department. We keep our faith and our trust to God that one of this days we will get the approval letter. I thank God also for the Family Bonding that we had last September when my brother Noel and his whole family came back from Australia to spent their short vacation with us, and a great blessing from the Lord that before 2011 ended, they got their own house where they spent their first Christmas and New Year. God also has blessed me with a stable job together with my brother Jonjon. Though struggles and trials keep coming our way, I can say we have a big God who is greater than our problems, who never leaves us nor forsake us.

Morning of Dec. 31, everyone are busy preparing food for the New Year's Eve celebration. The same thing what we did last Christmas, my sister in law Cristy and I prepared foods that we have shared in the night while waiting for 12 midnight to welcome the new year. Cristy prepared chicken barbecue, pansit canton and I prepared macaroni salad, fruit cake, ham and cheese roll, hotdogs to grilled for the kids, some ham for the bread, softdrinks and wine for our drinks. Few hours to go before we close 2011, I went to church to attend the worship service. When we get back at home, we start preparing the table outside where we can put our food. At exactly 12 midnight we watched the fireworks and it is all beautiful. I just wish I had some pictures of the fireworks so I can share here. I tried to take several times but it is all blurred because of the smoke. The celebration has ended around 1am then after cleaning all the mess I came online to talk with my Love and I am very happy to see him on cam and welcome the New year talking with him. We thank God so much that we didn't missed any single day for the whole year without talking with one another even we are miles apart.

2012, new year, new beginning and new challenges to face in life. It is good to start the year serving the Lord. The first day of January my dad and I went to church and I was so blessed with the topic "God can use you in 2012". (Matthew 9:36-37; 10:7). God can use us when we see others compassionately, when we respond to His challenges enthusiastically, when we come to Him prayerfully, when we accept His power trustingly and when we share the gospel joyfully. A blessing for me that I can join the Season of Prayer for this year, I just wish I can complete the 15 days but i will missed some days because of work.

I am looking forward that this year will be more fruitful and meaningful for everyone. I believe that God will answer my prayers too and hoping to be with my Love for this year. Let us surrender our lives to God and let Him use us for His glory. Happy New Year to everyone and God bless us always!!!

"Live as if God is coming today. Work as if God is coming tomorrow."
