Debut is one of the special event celebrated here in the Philippines when the girl turns to 18. It signifies also that a girl from her childhood now turns to become a young lady. The program is set to have an 18 Roses, where 18 young men will give a rose and dance the debutant; 18 Candles, 18 young ladies who will give their wishes to the celebrant; 18 Symbolic gifts or Treasures, composed of 18 people who will have a present or gift to the debutant and they are going to explain it why they give it to her, something that represents her character or what she likes the most. It's good to reminisce my debut happened last 1997, I thank my parents who gave me a wonderful birthday celebration and making my 18 years of life a very memorable one.
This coming September is the most awaited month for me and the whole family because my eldest niece is going to celebrate her 18 birthday here in the Philippines. For our readers, I will keep you updated and post some pictures too about my niece birthday. I know not all country celebrates the debut, but I hope you all like what Filipinos did. I want to share some of the photos we had on the debut party we attended last Sunday, she's the daughter of Thess, my second cousin.

Mission at Bulacan

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

We are made to live a purpose driven life and one of the purposes of our life is Evangelism. We were made for a mission. Fulfilling our life mission on earth is an essential part of living for God's glory.
I had a great experience last July 17, 2011 when I joined the mission team of our church going to Bulacan. This is the fourth mission point of my home church if I am not wrong. I was amazed to see how eager the people there to listen and learn more about God. The children inspired me a lot though they walked miles away because their houses are a little far from the place where we had our Worship service and Sunday school class but still they are willing to sacrifice for them to be able to hear the Word of God. Mission is a great privilege although it is a big responsibility, it is also an incredible honor to be used by God. It is a different joy to see the fruits of your labor. I hope and pray the people there will continuously open their hearts and totally commit and give themselves to the Lord. May God continue to bless the mission team of Banlat IEMELIF church, I pray more people will come to know God through this team.

Here are some pictures I want to share during the mission trip there!

One Scared Dog!!!

When it thunders, my dog, Rayna, has her favorite places to hide. I just wish she get into this one easier when it was time to wash her. But she is getting better when it comes time for a bath. I wonder if a recording of thunder will work? With my luck she will hide under the table where her other hiding spot is!

Food Journey: Chicken Adobo With Garden Salad

I normally eat dinner with my mom on my nights off from work. This week, mom and I enjoyed chicken adobo with a garden salad. Chicken adobo is a Filipino dish. Adobo for the Philippines is like hamburgers are to the United States as for what you could call a national dish. Adobo is not only for chicken but it can be made with seafood, beef, vegetables or any other meats. I first had adobo when I went to the Philippines to meet my Love, Jo Anne. I enjoy Filipino food a lot. When I got the extra money when I got back home I brought The Philippine Cookbook by Reynaldo Alejandro and started preparing Filipino dishes myself. I have used the cookbook and the advice of Jo Anne and her dad to prepare different Filipino foods. The cookbook was a very good buy for me I used it a lot, I recommend it to any one wanting to try Filipino cooking.

1 3-pound chicken, cut into serving pieces
½ cup soy sauce
¾ cup white vinegar
1 or 2 heads of garlic, crushed
2 bay leaves
½ tablespoon peppercorns
salt to taste

Bring to a boil the chicken together with the soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, bay leaves and peppercorns and simmer for half and hour. Remove the chicken pieces from the pot and broil them in a pan for 10 minutes. Let the sauce in the pot boil until it is reduced by half. Add salt to taste. Cover the broiled the chicken pieces with the sauce. Serve hot. ~ The Philippine Cookbook by Reynaldo Alejandro

I leave the chicken in the simmering sauce until the chicken is done instead of Broiling it. I do this because Jo Anne does not have a oven at their house in the Philippines. As serve it with rice since rice is part of almost every meal in the Philippines, while at least the ones I had there. Besides I like rice.

Mom put a garden salad together with some vegetables with had in the refrigerator. She green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, green bell pepper, blue berries, carrots, boiled eggs, cucumber, swiss cheese, pepper jack cheese, and cilantro. The garden salad was a good match with the chicken adobo. Mom and I enjoyed are meal together.

Hard Decisions

A friend called me Saturday asking me if I could help a young man that he has been trying to help get his life in order. The young man has been staying at the local mission for the homeless. He had run out of time to stay at the mission any longer. My friend asked me if I would be willing to let him stay at my house while he got established with things. My friend was hoping that I would be able to share some of the things I have been through in my life and encourage the young man.

I told my friend I would need to think and pray about it. If I did let the young man stay with me, we needed to get something for him to sleep on since I do not have a couch or another bed at my house. I went on out to do photo request for Find A Grave. I do some of my best thinking in cemeteries. I wrestled with this decision all Saturday afternoon and evening. I was still going back and forth on my choice. I want to used the blessings from God to be a blessing to others. This would be a great opportunity to be a blessing to someone. I could share with him how I hit bottom and made changes to improve my life. My friend thought I would be able I would most be a help with money issues since that was the biggest change that helped me. Getting your money settled will make a lot of other problems easier to deal with.

I was upset with myself because I was struggling with my decision to help. I kept coming up with reasons not to help. I had no place for him to sleep but my friend could help with getting a bed or a couch. I am extremely private person and like my alone time. Okay, I spend most of my waking hours talking with Jo Anne if I am not working. I do need to step out of my comfort zone. That I would need to makes arrangements with my landlord for the the young man to stay with me. I am sure that would not be a problem since the manager says I am one of the their best tenants. Of course, I would like to stay of their best tenants. The biggest problems I was having was the young man's history of drug use. He completed a drug rehabilitation program and did good in the program that he stayed on as a helper for the program. If I let him stay with me the big rule would be no drugs. Any drugs in the house would mean him being kick out of my place.

On Sunday morning, I decided to let the young man move in for just a couple months to work on getting established. Of course, he would have to kept a job and stay off drugs. I still felt uneasy about my decision. I though it was because I was going to be stepping out of my comfort zone. I was my friend at church Sunday morning and he was very upset and talking with some other friends. When I walked up, he said he was glad I said I needed to pray about it. The reason my friend was upset, was that the young man stole some copper from him. On top of stealing from my friend the young man was high on drug when he came to talk witth my friend. He felt betrayed and at a lost for what to do now. His other friends and I told him the best thing would be to the the matter over to the police. Our thinking was not to get even with the young man but to get him some help he needs. Unfortunately, he most likely needs to hit bottom before he starts making the changes he needs to make in his life.

I met up with my friend late on Sunday. He had taking a warrant out for the young man. My friend was still upset, telling me he wanted to be a blessing to the young man and now he felt he was making the young man life worse. I told my friend that maybe getting the law involved maybe want the young man need to start the changes he needs. He already been in trouble with the law some 13 times before in the county. My friend had talked with the young man's parents and told them want happen and want he had done. I am glad to says while I was talking with my friend last night things where starting to move into a plan of action to help the young man. Part of the plan is to get the District Attorney to have the young man go into a drug rehabilitation program. I hope it works and the young man does have a lot of support including my friend. The young man has a tough trail to a better life since drug addiction is a hard habit to overcome. I believe he will make it with the love and support of the many people around him.

People can change but the start of that is the person getting to a point were the want to change. I guess, I was have so much trouble with this decision because God was telling we the young man was not ready for the help I was going to give. Maybe later down the road, I will be able to help him with advice and other things but not a place to stay since soon Jo Anne will be here and I will need to see to her protection. I while continue to look for opportunities to use my blessings to be a blessing to other people in different ways.

Waiting For The Maintenance Man

This morning, I got up to wait for the maintenance man to come fix where rain water comes in my back door. I reported this several months ago and nothing was done. I cleaned the leaves and other junk from under the door and that helped a little. The rain did not leak in unless there was a heavy rain. With spring and summer afternoon storm now, we have had more heavy rains which means finding pools of water in the hallway by the back door when I get home at night. I reported it to the manager again and she said she would have the maintenance guys work on it this week. The good news is the one of maintenance men stopped by yesterday morning and looked at the back door. He said he would come this morning. I heard that before. The maintenance men are great guys but they get to talking to someone and time gets away from them. I am one that if I say I am going to be somewhere at a specific time, you can count on me being on time or early. It drive me nuts having to wait for people who are late and you do not know if they are really coming. While, He showed up a quarter to noon and got things fixed up. It seems like what he did will work. At least it looks nice. I have to wait until the next rain to see, which should be sometime this week.

Sending Time With The Dead

This weekend I spent a lot of time at one of the local cemeteries doing photo request for Find A Grave. There was 22 request for the cemetery. I found 11 on Saturday and uploaded then last night. I went back this afternoon after church and walked most of the cemetery again finding all but one of the graves I was looking for. In checking my email today I received several thank you emails. I also had one of my photo request on the site fulfilled today too.

I was at the cemetery helping people with the family tree research. I enjoy hunting for the different headstones for the photo request I also find the cemeteries very peaceful and relaxing. While I am looking around the cemetery, I often take the time to reflect on the greatness of God and ofter life impacting things.

Blogger And Picasa Going To Be Rebranding

According to a tech news e-mail I got from the Kim Komando Show there is talk going around the internet that Google is going to rename Blogger and Picasa. This rebranding is part of Google links more of its services to Google+. Blogger is be be renamed Google Blogs and Picasa is to be named Google Photos.

I use both these services and love the features. I also like the names. Changing the names to Google Blogs and Google Photos makes think Google is trying to be like Yahoo in their naming of services. Why do we have to make everything look the same? The differences that we have is what makes life interesting and fun. The different names like Blogger and Picasa tells me that this company in creative in the name of their product as the services. Maybe Google and Yahoo and secretly in talk to become one company. Okay kidding, I doubt that is happen. This rebranding does makes the two companies look more alike. Blogger and Picasa are great brands and I have recommended them to my friends and family to use. I am sure Google will continue to offer great services after the rebranding. The unique names of their service adds to the service and helps them stick out. The names give you imagines in your mind of being a important Blogger or being Picasso while working on your blog and photos. That will be lost in the rebranding of Blogger and Picasa.

Good To Have A Rainy Day

It is so good to see it rainy today. We have been dry here even with the afternoon showers. Fortunately, we are not as dry as the coast of North Carolina and the States of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona where they have really bad wild fires burning now. I heard that Texas had a fire in every county at one time. That is a lot of fire.

The good time about the rain it makes it cooler outside and at work. It gives hot in the warehouse where I work since there is no air condition on the work floor. A rainy day makes it cooler in the warehouse.

The rain also helps the flower and plants grow. I have been working on getting more green to grow in the yard around my place. It seems to be working but I do need to get some grass seed to put down. Next year, if I am still here with Jo Anne, I hope to plant a garden with flowers and vegetables. I was going to do it this year but I have been so busy with so many other things. I have done some home improvement projects around my place. I try to do a little here and there as I have free time and a little extra money. I have been lucky to get some things to use in the yard for free.

Front steps. The brinks were free and the I used two bags of mulch for both front and back door steps.

Back steps.

Table and chairs on the front pouch that I got for ten dollars last summer from a neighbor.

Happy 235th Birthday United States Of America!

Back 235 years ago, a group of brave man come together and signed the Declaration of Independence, giving born to the great nation of the United States of America. Our Founding Fathers, did not take want they did lightly. Some of they lose their lives, their sons and their fortunes after signing the Declaration of Independence. They help formed a country that have shined the light of freedom around the world.

I have a couple traditions, that I do for the Fourth Of July. I take the time to read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Of course, I try to go see fireworks somewhere. I watched the fireworks last night, that were put on by the local cable company and Pepsi, at a cookout at the family of the Sunday School Class leaders. We enjoyed our time swimming, playing Boccie, Corn Hole, and eating good food and ice cream. We had a good view of the fireworks and many people came to see the fireworks. I enjoyed the fireworks even though the show was short and the grand finally was lacking. Tonight, I will be having a cookout with my mom and oldest sister with her three youngest children.

Again I say, Happy Birthday to the country the I love, the United States of the America. May God continue to bless you and may you be a Beacon of Freedom in the World.

Brother's Birthday Dinner

July 1, was my brother, Steven's birthday. Mom and I took him and his girlfriend, Velma, out to pizza buffet in town to celebrate both their birthdays. We took them out to dinner tonight since I had to work last night. Mom had them over for dinner last night which she does each Friday.

Even though we only took them out to the restaurant they enjoyed their time out. The outings give them a little break from the group home. I feel sad for some of the people who live at the group home with Steven and Velma, who have one come visit them. Life is not bad at the group home where they live. The staff takes the residences to different places. Many of the things, Steven gets to do at the group home he would be able to do living with mom.

We first made arrangements for Steven to live in the group home because he was involved with people who were taking advantage of him because of his mental handicap. The group home has been a good thing for him. He has his own room, good friends, and the staff sees that his needs are taking care of each day. The best thing is that mom live only a few minutes drive away which makes visits easy.

I feel better about celebrating Steven's birth on the second. My grandmother passed away on July 1, 1999. We did not tell Steven about Grandma's passing until the next day. It was hard not to tell him but we did not want to roughen his birthday with the sad news. My mind is normally more on remembering my grandmother on his birthday.

Photo Of The Week: Flag In Flower Pot

Ready for the Fourth Of July.

Do Not Worry!!!

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

Worry is a big factor that give stress to people. It signifies that we are losing our hope and faith to God. On the book "How to Win Over Worry" by John Edmund Haggai, he said that Worry is a sin for two reasons: First, Worry is distrust in the truthfulness of God; and Second, Worry is a sin because it is detrimental to the body which God has given you. Why do we worry if we pray? No one can pray and worry at the same time.

Worry divides our mind between worthwhile interests and damaging thoughts. The man with divided mind is unstable in all his ways.
"But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does." James 1:6-8

We do worry most of the time and yet we say we trust God in everything. If we totally surrender and give all our cares to God, there is no reason for us to worry. Our God is faithful to His promises and He always provide for our needs. Like what the Bible says on how God provide for the birds, even though they do not sow or reap or store away in barns but our Heavenly Father feeds them. How much more for us, are we not more valuable than they? God cares for us so much.
"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

In one article in the Denver Seminary Magazine Focal Point, Paul Borden gave some helpful suggestions for worries:
First: Start a Worry list. We need to write down everything that we are worried about.
Second: Turn your worry list into a prayer list. We need to pray and ask the Lord to work in those situations we are concerned about. Pray specifically for our needs and be totally dependent on Him.
Third: Turn your prayer list into an action list. If we have any insight that there is something we can do about our cares, let's do it.

Free our mind from worries, do not doubt, entrust everything to God, and have faith. Don't start tomorrow; start today! Start now! Your worries will flee. God will be glorified.
