You Will Be Missed Lisa Anderson!

I was shocked to hear of the passing of Lisa Anderson this week. I read of her death on the local newspaper's web site. Since it was only a death notice with only name and age I was not sure it was her. I was able to conform it today. I was one of her first students as a English teacher during high school. She touched many lives during her years of service to the students in Henderson and Transylvania Counties.

Ghost In My Life

In the pass week, a couple of the shows I watch regularly that are not paranormal shows talked about ghost. This got me thinking of my personal ghost experiences. Two come from my childhood and one from a place where I worked.

One time, I took a wild tour of one of the many caves in Eastern Tennessee with a group I was involved with. This was not my first cave trip so I knew the different sounds one hears in the underground. Before heading to bed, our tour guide told us the history of the cavern we were spending the night in. The history he told us included a ghost story. I did not think much of the ghost part of the story until later after we went to bed. At some point during the night, I woke up and heard what sounded like someone with bare feet running through the sleeping area. I peaked out of my sleeping bag and saw no light. While I was listening to the foot falls they got loader and then faded away just like someone running by me.

This next story happen in my teen years. I had been camping several times at Holmes Educational State Forest and seen strange thing that I have not seen anywhere else. One night I was siting up with a friend just talking after everyone else in the group went on to bed. As we were talking we looked up to the field that was nearby the campsite, when we saw lights coming out of the woods on the other side of the field. The legend goes that back in the days of the Civilian Conservation Corps, a few of the workers from a camp nearby got lost during a snow storm and froze to death. Before they died they wondered the mountain side looking for the camp and walked through the what is now the group campsite at Holmes Educational State Forest. We looked at one another to see if the other saw the same thing. We watched the lights come further out out of the woods and start heading across the field, when we decided to head on to our tent and take our sleep.

One thing that has only happen to me at this campsite and no where else, is waking in the night and it being as if the side of the tent was not there. What I mean is that I could see through the side of the tent. I could see things outside the tent as if I was sitting outside the tent looking at them. This never scared me but I did find it interesting. I have heard about other strange thing others have seen in the area. I would like to do some research on the area to see if there is any truth in the stories I have heard. I have found that ghost stories have a lot of historical fact in them even if the ghost are real or not.

My last ghost story today involves the Burger King, I worked at a few years ago. One day I came into work and the ladies were all excited about hearing or seeing a woman in the kitchen. They looked all over the place and saw no one. I couple weeks later I was in the kitchen talking with one of the ladies during slow period in the day when I heard a female's voice clear as could be say hello. It was like a good friend just walked and said hello. Even through my coworker said she did not heard the voice I knew she did because of the look that came over her face when I heard the voice. I did check the front of the store and only saw a male coworker. After that, I heard of a couple other ghostly events even after I no longer worked there.

With my experiences and the stories I have read, I believe that ghost are trapped energy. Even the Bible refers to ghost.
Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid."

And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." ~ Matthew 14:22-33 (ESV)

And also,
Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid." And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. ~ Mark 6:45-52 (ESV)

I do not know if ghost are real or not. I am not sure how to explain these and other events in a different way at this time.

Two Year Old Smoker!

At work my coworkers and I get into some interesting discussion sometimes. Last night at work one of my coworkers showed us the follow video of a two year old from Indonesia smoking.

It is hard to judge the parents of the child, because I do not know the level of education on the dangers of smoking the people in Indonesia receive. Here in the United States, it seems that we hear about how bad it is to smoke. If the child was here he would be taking away from the parents and the parents charged with child abuse. While I do fully agree this is abuse of the child, I do have to ask why the parents are letting the child to smoke at that young of an age? Do the parents not know the harm smoking does to young lungs? Is educating them more about smoking the action needed or taking the child away? Fortunately, the boy is being watched over the Indonesian Child Protective Services. I hope they see that the right thing is done for this little boy. Maybe the dad should be showed a better way to spend the $5 a day, instead of buying cigarettes for his two year old.

I do not smoke but I support anyone's right to smoke if they are old enough to understand the health issues that are involve in smoking. I do not believe second hand smoke is as bad as some people would have us to believe. The biggest problem that I have with smoking is that a lot of smokers just throw the cigarette butts on the ground in stead of the disposal units provided. If you are going to smoke please show some respect for others.

Rough Week

This week was almost a complete lose since I was sick for most of it. I got sick on Tuesday which was the day I was going to finish up the immigration things I needed to do for the lawyer that is helping Jo Anne and I. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I barely had enough energy to do my job at work. Each day the symptoms were different. I am glad that I was feeling better of Friday with only a cough and dried sinuses. I was able to get the immigration things done which I drop off to the lawyer on Monday. Time is running out we only have to the the end of the month to get things filed.

I have been taking mom to work in the most of this week, since her car broke down last week. They had to wait for a part to come in due to my mom's car being from the 1980s. I took her to pickup her car Thursday morning. She got her car and we stopped at the ATM up the road a little ways, so I could give her money for gas. I got to the end of the road when mom called me telling me that her car stalled on her again. I turned around and helped her get the car completely off the road. We took her keys back to the garage for the mechanic to go tow and fix her car again then I took mom to on for work. They had her car back running by the end of the day but mom had to wait for me to take her to pick it up on Friday morning since I already left for work.

My church family lost an active member of our church, when someone took the life of Vanessa Mintz on Friday night. She murder was the first homicide in Polk County, North Carolina in years. She recently returned from a mission trip to Pakistan. She will be miss by those who knew her. I thank her for her service to our Lord and Savior Jesus.

I hope that the next post I will have good news to share. With the Green's Six Oaks fire and the death of Vanessa Mintz, it has been depressing to write about these things. Even with the bad news, it is good to see how God provides for us in our times of need.

Tuxedo's Heart Destroyed By Fire

Saturday morning, the community of Tuxedo lost what many including me would call the center of the community to fire. Green's Six Oaks was not only a place to get gas but a place to take things for the house, a post office and a meeting place. When someone said, “I will meeting you at Green's.” everyone in Southern Henderson County knew they were talking about Green's Six Oaks.

The gas station was a family run business that opened in 1980 by the late Roscoe Green. Each Fourth of July, as a thank you to the community for their support over the years. Without a doubt they had the best fireworks show in the area. People would come from hundreds of miles away to see the fireworks show. Along with the fireworks provided by Green's Six Oaks, there was gospel singing and Mike's Chuck Wagon's Fourth of July Cookout.

When I lived in Tuxedo, my roommate and I would stop at Green's Six Oaks at the being of trips and to catchup on what was happening in the area. We would often stop in just to buy something to snack on with a drink because of the things the owners' would do for the community.

Even though they did not have insurance on the building, I hope the family will be able to rebuild and become the heart of the community again. Green's Six Oaks will be missed.

500th Post

This is the 500th post on Mountain Highs and Valley Lows! Jo Anne and I have had a lot of fun getting to this point. I started this Blog as a way the share the ups and downs of my friends and my lives in hope the your stories encourage and improve other people's lives.

Jo Anne started sharing on Mountain Highs and Valley Lows after we started dating. Our relationship and the process of getting Jo Anne here to the United States has been one of the main topics. Speaking of which we are preparing the first round of papers to file now. We have to the end of February to file them. It is hard to believe my trip to the Philippines was two years ago. We need to have the papers filed within two years of meeting in person. We will continue to share updates and other information here as the process moves forward.

If you have followed Mountain Highs and Valley Lows for awhile you know that I lost my job when I got back from the Philippines. That is the reason it has taking so long to get to this filing point. I talked about looking for work and finding the job I have now. Which I hope to have for many years to come.

Along with our relationship and jobs, Jo Anne and I shared our love for our Lord Jesus. We post Bible devotional every once in a while. On Fridays, I post a Photo of the Week, We also talk about places we visit, food and many other things. With my recent purchase of a laptop, I hope to be able to post more and better post.

Along with Mountain Highs and Valley Lows, I have two other Blogs called Spiritual Places, Spiritual Moments and Where's George Money. Spiritual Places, Spiritual Moments is where I post pictures of churches, cemeteries and other spiritual places. Where's George Money is where I share the latest new and updates on the hobby of tracking my money with the website Where's George?

Okay, enough of the other Blogs. Jo Anne and I are working on a series of post now which we hope to have ready soon. We are planning other series for our loyal followers. I plan on taking some day trips on the weekends, if I can afford the gas being it is going up again. I will share about the many great places to visit near my home in Western North Carolina. Some trips that I hope to take is going to Boone, North Carolina, Northeastern Tennessee, and driving US Highway 64 East through North Carolina.

Jo Anne and I enjoy hearing from people who read Mountain Highs and Valley Lows, so please leave a comment. If you have a question or suggestions for a post feeling free to contact us.

New Computer!

Yesterday, I got a new laptop. I am working on getting everything setup on it. Once I get that all done, I hope to be able to post more on the blog. So far, I love the laptop that I got. It will do until I can get money saved up for a better computer. It will also be a great help with everything I need to do to get Jo Anne here. Speaking of that, I have another appointment with the immagration lawyer tomorrow. Please pray everything goes good with the lawyer. We need to get all the paperwork filed by the end of the month. I know this a short note but, I hope more will be come and more often now.
