All of us have a list of places that we would like to see before we die. One my these place for me is Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. My Love and I are planning to see Mount Pinatubo when we go see her father's relatives in Pampanga. Mount Pinatubo is not to far away, Pampanga and is 55 miles (90 kilometers) from Manila.
Mount Pinatubo is an active strato volcano on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It had a major eruption in 1991 that was bigger that the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington State. Clark Air Base which was run by the United States military was heavily damaged by the eruption. The United States decide to not return to Clark Air Base after the eruption and turned the base over to government of the Philippines on November 26, 1991.
Today there is a lake in the crater of Mount Pinatubo that people go swimming in. The lake was formed from rain water filling the crater.
Here is the best video of the eruption I could find.
