Helping a Friend

When you read the book of Acts so read about the early church helping people in need. I have always had a heart to help people in need. Most of the time, my help is in guiding them to another person, a ministry, or service that will best help them. Over the past few days I have been trying to help a friend from my high school days. I was in the band with my friend Josh. The past five years have been hard on Josh. Now Josh has no place to stay and no job. He is also going through changing his medicines.

Josh called me Friday asking if a could help him. With the help of my friend Ricky Gessler, I was able to get Josh a room at the hotel where I work. My boss, Scott, gave us a discounted rate for the room. I made sure he got something to eat and toke him around to different place to apply for jobs. While at the hotel Josh was able to relax a little and to focus on getting the long term help he needs. On Tuesday, Josh is going to go to the mission in Asheville to see if he can find work up there.

In helping people, you do not want to just give them money. You want to find want the need is and you take care of the need. In a lot of cases if you just give someone money who is asking for help they will take the money and use it for things that will not help with their problems. When people are it crisis mode they do not always make the best decisions. Often times need someone to guide them through this difficult time in their life. Set reasonable goals for the people you try to help. Give them something then tell them in order for them to get something else that will help them they need to reach this goal. As time goes on they will become less dependent of help of other and be able to help themselves.

Now back to my friend Josh, things truly do not look to good for him at this time. I do see a bright future for Josh. It may be a long hard road to that future but God has great things planned for Josh. I am willing to help when I can because I had people a long the way who encourage me to continue on even when I lost all hope. I hope you will join with me in praying for Josh.

Waiting in Line for Gas

This morning before leaving work my boss ask me if I would go get gas for his car. The gas stations have been running out of gas for the past couple week here in Western North Carolina. There is something wrong with the pipeline caused by the hurricanes a couple weeks back. At least, that is the story that is being told over the news. I think there is something else going on but I not worried because I believe I have enough to get through the shortage.

Here is the picture of the car waiting in line for gas at the Ingles on Highland Lake Rd in Flat Rock, NC.

Here is how to report a gas station you think is price gouging.

Family with Down Syndrome Child Meets John McCain and Sarah Palin

On Friday, I was listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio as I was going to the bank. A guy called and shared how he and his family meet with John McCain and Sarah Palin at a rally in Washington, Pennsylvania. The caller, a guy named Kurt has a five-year-old daughter with Down syndrome. As we know Sarah Palin's youngest child has Down syndrome, too. Rush Limbaugh now has the pictures and the call transcript on his website.

Down syndrome is caused an extra or part of an extra chromosome in which the person has 47 chromosome instead of the norm 46 chromosomes. Down syndrome is named after a British doctor, John Langdon Down, who described the characteristics of the syndrome in 1866. Click here to to learn more about Down syndrome.

Plans for Christmas and New Years

I am very excited about Christmas this year. My beloved Jo Anne and I are planning to spend Christmas and New Years together. I will be traveling to the Philippines in December to be with Jo Anne. Not only are we planning on taking the time to get to know one another but we are planning to serve the Lord by doing a mission trip together while I am there. We for going to help with a Christmas Party for her Uncle's church. We are planning to buy Bible for them and also pick a family to take care of some of their need during the Christmas season. We are thinking about starting a ministry in order to take care of the needs of the people and reach them for Jesus.

Jo Anne is going to show me around her country. I looking forward to seeing how she lives. I also looking forward to meeting some of her family and friends. The ones I have meet seems so nice.

I have been saving up the money for my trip. I have found flights from $1900 and up during the time period I want. I have almost almost $1800 in my savings account. I also have planning to the money I need for my shots, spending money, to pay my bills while I am gone, Jo Anne's Visa to come back to the United States and other things. God is providing everything we need in order to be together. Jo Anne and I both ask that you continue to pray for us and our plans.

Food Journey: Macaroni and Cheese

I had some macaroni laying around in my kitchen and I needed to use it. I decided to make some Macaroni and Cheese. So I got on the Internet and found this recipe called Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese at

1/2 pound elbow macaroni
4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups milk
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Coat the inside of the slow cooker with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, beat eggs with fresh and evaporated milks. Mix in uncooked macaroni and 3 cups shredded cheese. Transfer to slow cooker, and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.

Cook on low for 5 to 6 hours. Do not stir or remove lid while cooking.

Here is the Macaroni and Cheese in the Slow Cooker when finished cooking.

The best things about cooking is eating your creation.

This recipe taste good right out of the slow cooker and after that when it is cold. I used Colby and Monterey Jack cheeses instead of the Cheddar that the recipe calls for. I recommend shorting the cooking time and putting the salt and pepper in it.

Spiritual Starvation

Spiritual starvation is likely common to a kid who are suffering from physical malnourishment. Starving people actually reach a point when they don’t even want food that is placed before them. If we have been feeding daily on God’s word it is natural to feel “hungry” when we skip our quiet time. But if we continue to neglect it, we may lose all desire to study the Scriptures.

Many people all over the world are starving spiritually, they have an insatiable cravings for nourishment. If our physical body needs food to make us strong how much more our spiritual life. Friends, we must feed our spiritual life through reading the Bible and meditating on its truth.

Set a time each day to talk with God by prayer. When you lost your taste for the “bread of life” just confess your sins and ask forgiveness from God and seek His help to revive your appetite for His word. According to Thomas Guthrie, “Be Alarm” if you find yourself loving any pleasure better than your prayers, any book better than the Bible, and any persons better than Christ.

Are you hungry and need nourishment? If you think you are, then feed your soul. Set aside the things you are doing right now, put yourselves in the presence of the Lord and talk with Him through a silent prayer. Only God can treat your malnourished spiritual life, just let Him take control of your life.

A well read Bible is a sign of a well fed soul.

Ministry for Homeless Turns Down Jackpot Money

Recently, the Lighthouse Mission in Patchogue, New York turned down its share of money from a winning lottery ticket with a jackpot worth $3 million. The Lighthouse Mission helps the homeless on Long Island. The Mission's Executive Director, Pastor James Ryan, said the mission turned down the money because they feel it would send the wrong message to the people they help with addictions which includes gambling addictions. I was so touch by this story this morning when I read my local paper, Times-News, that I had to share it with you here. I encourage you too send a gift to the Lighthouse Mission for doing the right thing. I am sure it was hard for them to turn down the money since they are need of a new building for their offices. To find out how to support them or to find more information about the Lighthouse Mission go to their website at

Remembering 9/11/01

Seven years ago our lives in the United States changed forever. I decided this year to share how I remember that day.

I had the day off but, I got up early to take my mother to work. I walked out of my room as they which over to special report saying a plane just hit one of the towers at the World Trade Center. At this point, I do not think much about it. It must have been an accident after all a plane crashed into the Empire State Building in the 1950's. As my mother and I sat there watching the news, we saw the second plane hit the other tower. As soon as I saw the second plane hit, I looked at my mother and said, "We are being attacked." As we continued to watch the news came that the Pentagon was hit by another plane. My stomach sunk as I heard the news about the Pentagon. I ridden on a bus just pass the tower but I had been in the Pentagon. Now a sat there watching these buildings on fire. Then seeing the towers collapse made my stomach sink again.

The fourth plane had crash by the time I took my mother into work. I worked at the local Wal-mart at the time. I stopped in to the store on the way home. Their were many people in the store but it was very quiet. I was amazed at how quiet at was in the store that day. It took a few days for the noise level to get back to normal at the store. I walked around the store and talked with my friends and everyone was talking about what happen in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania.

In the end, 2,998 people lost their lives because of the actions of 19 men. I hope that we never forget the people who dead that day.

Warning: first video has some bad words in it!

Christianity is a Relationship with God

Many of my friends and I often say we do not have a religion but a relationship with God. Although, it is not completely true because God gave the religion in order to have a relationship with him. The religious things we do is the way we have fellowship with God. We pray and sing praises to God. And God speaks in many ways to us. The Bible is the main way God speaks to us.Christianity is the only religion that God is reaching down to man instead of man reaching up to God. God sent is only son to die on the cross for our sins. He desires fellowship with us. God is our Heavenly Father which talk to him through prayer and he talks to us through his word, the Bible.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in
him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into
the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved
through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not
believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the
only Son of God. ~ John 3:16-18 (English Standard Version)

God is our creator and father. It is through Jesus that we can have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. When me pray we call God our father as Jesus told us how he told us how to pray. God talks to us through his word in the Bible and the Holy Spirit.
Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. ~ Matthew
6:9 (English Standard Version)

God is our Heavenly Father and he is the prefect father. Unfortunately, many of us do not have a Earthly Father or a Earthly Father at does not do a good job at being a father. It is from our father here on earth we get our biggest picture of our Heavenly Father. I will do something on the role of fathers later. But Fathers are very important part of our live not only for the example of God's love for us.

My View on the Presidential Race

It is without a doubt a historical presidential race here in the United States. I have been following the race very closely in the news. Now we have a chance to see the first black elected President or the first women elected as Vice President. Which if you look at Obama is more white and other things then black. Be at last the color of ones skin does not tell you anything about the person they are and want kind of job they are going to do.

While a lot of things have be said about Mr. Obama that is not true. There is too many questions left unanswered especially when it comes to the change he keeps talking about. Mr. Obama is the most liberal Senators in the United States Senate. That does take some doing. He plans of make government bigger and rise our taxes. Government is know for its excellent running of things just look at our public schools, welfare system, and our do nothing congress. Congress have sat on their hand doing nothing because they said it be years before drilling or the other things that have been suggested to do any help. While the last time I checked this is life and life's problems often take time to solve. Life is not a TV Sitcom where problems are solved in 30 minutes. Obama has come up with no major legislation since being in the Senate. He has chanced his position on things several times.

I have disagree with many things the John McCain has voted for over the years but, he has done things to try the being change. Mr. McCain has many thing out the United States first in his life over his personal interest. We do need someone in the White House who stand up for want he believes is best for our country and not just do want the pole say the people want at that thing. John McCain stood strong on defending the United States over the years. With John McCain record even the things I disagree with he has showed leadership. Ladies and Gentlemen a leader is want we need for a president not someone who changes his mind every time the wind blows.

Sarah Palin, John McCain's running mate, has shown herself as a reformer. I think it is sad that people have attack her personally. Attack her for her record not because she has a child with Down Syndrome or her daughter is pregnant. With her son's Down Syndrome, with her as Vice President she will have more options open to her to take care of him then if she stayed in Alaska. As the case with her daughter no family is prefect and she is supporting her daughter. Being a major of a small town is some ways just as hard as being President because people in small town know you personally and it is harder to hide things.

I encourage you to vote. No matter who you vote for in the election look at their record and vote for the one you feel is the best for the job. If you do not vote you can not complain about want is wrong with the government because you are not doing what you can do to change the government. Complaining changes nothing over time people getting out and voting will bring change.

Healing Of Our Memories

The Brain is the center for registering sensations, correlating them with one another and with stored information, making decisions and taking actions. It is also the center for intellect, emotions, behaviors, and memory. Our memory is the one that receive, stores, and retrieve all the informations and experiences happened from the past. It was stored in our subconscious mind that are momentarily not present in consciousness but can more or less readily be recalled to awareness.

In our life, we had a lot of experiences whether good or bad, present or past that was stored from our memory. Sometimes the bad memories of our past serves as a way for us to fall into sin. We don’t even noticed that our heart already hate the person who hurt us. Yes, it is easy to say that we forgive those who hurt us but still the memories are just stored on our subconscious mind and everytime we recall that experience, we feel the anger and hatred in our heart. One Pastor said about the saying “Only time will heal the wound” is not true because only God can heal the wound of our past. Now is the time for us to ask God to heal the memories of our past. We need His help to forget all the bad experiences that we had and asked Him to retain only the good ones. We say we forgive but its hard to forget the things that cause our pain. It is true, it’s hard for us to forget but if we allow God to work in our lives, everything that is hard will become easier for us.
