Christmas Party at Work

Today we had our Christmas party at work. I enjoyed the party for many reasons. One reason was that I cooked the ribs and meatballs that my co-workers enjoyed eating at the party. Those of you who know me there is nothing that brings me more joy then seeing my friends enjoying something I worked on. The another thing I enjoyed tonight was the happiness of my friends at work when I gave their Christmas gifts to them tonight. Many of the people I work with have lost people very close and dear to them in the last two years. I have set up online memorials for their love ones that have passsed away at Find A Grave's web site. Only one of them did not know what I was giving them for Christmas. I had to ask questions to find the information I needed to setup the memorials and I wanted to be sure they would be okay with the memorials since it involved the death of a love one. The one that did not know about it, has not been talking to me for the last two weeks. I was worried about giving it to her. While after I gave her the letter that I wrote to her telling her of the memorial for her love one, she came up to me and hugged and thanked me for setting up the memorial. We started talking with one another again, and that filled me with joy. Out of all the people in my life right now she is the one I enjoy being around the most. I love to see her smile. And I made her smile several times tonight. I hope all of you enjoy Christmas this year and remember Christmas is not about giving or receiving gifts, but remembering to share the Greatest Gift with everyone. That gift is God's son, Jesus, who died for our sins 2000 years ago.

Looking for Family in Grave Yards

I enjoy researching my Family Tree. When researching your family roots you may find yourself in a graveyard or two. Find A Grave is a web site that I use in my research as I said before in this Blog. This week Jonathan, my roommate, and I fulfilled a photo requested from Find A Grave and went looking for the graves of his family. Since my family is from New Jersey and New York, I put in a photo request for photos for my Second Great Grandparents on the mother's side gravestones. That request was fulfilled today. The pictures in with entry are the result of that photo request.

Merritt C Carpenter was a harness maker from New York State. I have not been able to find his parents yet but I have a good lead. I am just looking for backing information. I have been able to track Harriet's family back to the 1300s. Her family was living in Sussex County, New Jersey by the time of her birth. Her branch of my mother's family that is related to my father's side of the family.

I have started entering grave sites on Find A Grave to help other people in their family tree research. I also fulfill photo request when I can, because I know the photos of family members' gravestone are I connection with those family members.

God Gives Us Freedom

God desires to have fellowship with us. God gives us the freedom to choose the good and bad things of life so we can have this fellowship with him. Without the bad things of life we could not have fellowship God that he desires to have with us. We would have no need to go to God if he took care of everything thing without asking. Sometimes God is glorify the most when his people are going through hard times.

God does not force us to have fellowship with him. He quietly calls us to him. Now let us look at our day-to-day lives. It is easier to go to the bars, nightclubs, or other places me go to fellowship with people. Also it is also easier to worship a movie, rock and sport star then it is for us to praise God. If God forced us to worship him it would not be fellowship with him it would be fear of him.

Dan the Hand Model?

Tonight at work I had a customer tell me that I had nice hands for a man. That I should think about being a hand model. She said that a friend of hers was a body parts model and that body part models are in demand. Well I am sure that I would not get a job as a hand model like she said I could. I have one big scare on my left hand and several small scares on both hands. It was a nice complement.

Great Customer Service

We are in the biggest shopping time of the year. I am surprised at how many companies now days have really bad customer service. Retail stores seem to only put their people on cash registers and not on the floor to take care of the customer needs. Internet and catalog companies have you call a computer. If you are lucky enough to get a live human being they can hardly speak the language or they have an accent you can not understand. Then my favorite thing companies do is send you from person to person and you never get what you are looking for in the first place. All what this says to me is me just want money but you are not important enough to treat you right. I do not mind paying and little more for a good product and good service. I want both when I go shopping. I have stopped going to places that I get bad service even if them had the lowest price. I have worked hard for my money and if you you want me to get it to you, I want great service with the product or products I am buying from you.

But, I am happy to say there are still companies out there that treat their customer right. One of these companies is L.L. Bean. They have good quality products at great prices. I recently ordered some mocs from them. The mocs were delivered to the wrong address. I called L.L. Beans Customer Service Hotline. The representative listen to my problem and made sure she understood want the problem was and then turn me over to the right department who quickly took care of the problem. L.L. Bean even called a few day later to check to if I got my package. I did not so they sent a replacement to me at no charge. L.L. Bean's website is www.llbean.com. I will buy more products in the future from L.L. Bean because of the great customer service I received from them.

People to be Thankful For

This Thanksgiving Day let us take the time to give thanks for some people who may not be with their family on this day. Our military service men and women, police, EMS, and firefighters have answered the call to serve us. Many of them work on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since September 11, 2001, all these people have been working the front line in protecting our country. Remember to thank God for all these wonderful men and women.

Getting the Car Fixed

This month I have spend a lot money on getting my car fixed. My brother Tim and I replaced the rotors and brake pads on Sunday. The brake parts cost me $68. When my brother and I looked over the old rotors it looked like someone dropped one of them. We were going to replace the Drive Belt but in order to replace it you have to remove a motor mount. So I have to on to a service center to get it done. I already have the belt so I will only pay for the labor. I have been told it is hour and half job. That is $75 more then I have to pay all because of a motor mount. The belt cost me $20. Soon I am going have to do an oil change.

Go Vote it is Your Duty!

While tomorrow is Election Day. I will be glad when it is over. I am sick of all the lies that are being told. Since I was 18 years old I have only missed one election that I could vote in. I believe if you do not use your right to vote you lose your right to complain about the government. Even with all the bad thing about our system of government in the United States we still have the best government in the world. In saying that you can bet that I will vote tomorrow.

I found the following website a few weeks ago. I thought I share it today so tomorrow you can use it to keep up with the House and Senate races tomorrow.

Hard Times With Friends

While I got into fights with two of my dearest friends this week. We talked things out and forgive one another. Jonathan you are my best friend and I hate to think about where I be without out you. Amber you are my newest friend. You make me laugh because I see myself sometimes in you. We are both just learning about one another. I care about you both very much. I will always be there for you when you need a friend. Friends may fight and do stupid things but they always forgive one another. I sorry for the stupid things I have done to cause the fighting between us.

Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven. ~ Matthew 18:21-22 (English Standard Version)

Cleaning the Office at Work

At work my Assistant Manager, Deana, and I cleaned the office. We took every thing that we could out of the office. Then we started wiping down the walls. I cleaned the ceiling tiles. It is amazing how much brighter it is in the office now that all the smoking build up is gone. Believe it or not the walls and ceiling are white. Deana and I both do not smoke. As we were cleaning we discussed what someone who smokes lungs must look like. Just by how the walls in the office looked liked before we started to clean, its got to be pretty nasty looking. We used blench water to clean the ceiling, shelves, and walls. Soap and water just would not cut through the nicotine stains that was on everything. I do have some chemical burns on my fingers from the blench water but they are not to bad. I am sure that my fingers will heal quickly. And I feel like I really accomplished something with cleaning the office.

I have always enjoyed cleaning up after other people as long as they are not just leaving it because they know I will clean it up. I have never liked cleaning up after myself and who really does. But, I do kept a clean house. Now being a single guy I will let somethings slide for a day or two if it will not attracted pest every now and then. At least once a week, usually more that once a week I do detail cleaning around the house. I find cleaning house or around work very relaxing as long as I feel that I am not being force to clean something. Those who really know me know sometimes I just need to relax. Also, clean helps me think things over. So you can say cleaning is a great stress relief for me.

Find A Grave

Had the day off from work today. After I finished my running around in Hendersonville I went down to Traveler's Rest. On the way to the Wal-mart Supercenter I stopped at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church wrote down gravestone information in the cemetery. When I got home from my shopping trip I entered the information on Find A Grave's website. You can find Find A Grave web site at http://www.findagrave.com. I found the site when I was researching my family tree. I found burial information on a few of my ancestors on the site. I have decided to enter some grave sites on the site to help others information information on their ancestors. Check out the site and see if you can find information on your family.

Life Expectancy of 84 years

I just took a Life Expectancy Test at http://livingto100.com. Their test calculated that I can expect to live to 84 Years old. That does not surprise me. My grandfather and his mother both died in their 80s. This life Expectancy is with my bad habits figured in. So, I guess I am not that bad off after all.

Weight Update

Yesterday after I got a new battery for my car. I had some time before I had to go to work so I went to the Pardee Hospital's place in the Mall and weighted myself. I was surprised when I weighted only 210 lbs. As many of you know I have lost 40 lbs this year. The last time I weighted myself I weighted 207 lbs. So in the last two months I only put 3 lbs back on.

The last bit of news is Amber and I are planning to go to Greenville, SC on Tuesday when we both have off. Of course, that means I will need to fix my car today (Monday) when I wake up.

Car Problems

While with every car you are going to have problems. My car battery went dead on me tonight when I went up to town. I went to town to see a guy I know to ask him to explain some information I found on my great grandfather. When he did not come I decided to go home. When I went out to the car I could not get it started. Someone gave me a jump and I got home alright. I got the car restarted after I turned it off when I got home. Which is good since I got the go back to town to take Amber home so I can talk a little with her.

Dogs are a lot of work.

I have a dog and I am taking care of my roommates dog while he is in Tennessee. My dogs name is Rayna and Jonathan's dog's name is Gus. I clean out the pin everyday rake the mulch in the pin a least every other day. Today I dug a ditch to help keep the water from running down the hill into the pin. Sometime they make me question why I want to have children someday. But, I love them very much.

No TV is great!

My roommate Jonathan and I have decided to discontinue our satellite programs. This means basically we will have not TV. We can get channel 4 out of Greenville a little. But, we got the radio, we can also listen online also, and I can find the time to read the books I have been reading.
